CharQuinta Walker

Hi CharQuinta, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Becoming a massage therapist was an unexpected career path. In high school, I knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur. I knew that I wanted to own and run my own business. So after HS, I went to a four-year university, believing I needed a business degree to become an entrepreneur. A great thought /idea, but definitely wasn’t for me. While in college, I started working and lost focus. I quit school and just focused on making money. While I enjoyed living my best life at the time, I still felt unfulfilled and knew that where I was working wasn’t what I wanted as my career. Randomly one day, I just started searching for colleges. I figured I needed to go back to school to get my degree, and that would lead me to my purpose. Little did I know it actually would lead me to Massage Therapy. After researching different schools and programs, I found one that offered massage therapy.

For some reason, that stood out. I had never had a massage before, nor did I know any massage therapists, but it intrigued me so I decided to reach out for more info about the Massage program. After meeting with the admissions as well as some students and teachers, I was sold! I enjoyed my time in school; I learned so much valuable information about the body and Massage. It changed my life and lifestyle. I love helping people and teaching them that Massage is much more than just for relaxation. It’s a lifestyle of good health and well-being. Almost 10 years of being a massage therapist, and it still excites me to see the change in my clients once they get off my table. This journey hasn’t always been easy, but I wouldn’t change a thing. I’ve learned so much about myself and life.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Entrepreneurship is rewarding, but it comes with a lot of challenges.

Building Clientele and having a consistent schedule took more time than I expected, which led to me being uncertain about myself and what I knew. I started to question my worth and if I had made the right decision in becoming a massage therapist.

Having not done the proper research, I started off lowballing my prices, so I was overworking myself and still not seeing the profit for how much I was working. Almost burned out before I even got started good.

I had to learn time management with EVERYTHING. Balancing all the duties that come with running your own company, as well as trying to make time for family, friends, relationships, and most importantly ME.

The risk of failure definitely took a toll on me psychologically. Mental Health Matters!!!

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a mobile Massage therapist in Atlanta, but I travel all over Georgia. I enjoy being mobile because it allows my clients to get the best out of their massage. They are in the comfort of their own home, more relaxed and at ease. Most importantly they don’t have to fight Atlanta traffic to get to me or to get home. My sessions are personalized for what my clients need that day, and that may vary from session to session. I offer a range of services: Sports Massage, Prenatal, Reflexology, and Lymphatic Drainage, just to name a few. I love what I do and try to show it through every massage!

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
That I am resilient and that persistence is Key! Entrepreneurship comes with challenges, uncertainties, and setbacks. I had to learn to pivot and become adaptable. I had to learn to trust in myself and to know that in the face of adversity, I can still pursue my goals and succeed! I took risks, accepted all the No’s, and moved forward until I got a Yes! I learned to stay committed to my vision while navigating the ups and downs of this journey.
