Symya Williams

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m grateful to share my story of evolution with you all, as a kid from the urban southside of Atlanta to a single mom thriving with her own virtual assistant firm. I stand as a symbol of a rare find, a true Atlanta native who has grown and transformed. My educational foundation was laid in the Atlanta Public School system, where my passion for drafting and engineering took root. After high school, I pursued a Bachelor of Engineering in Biomedical Engineering at Vanderbilt University. My journey then led me into the world of engineering, initially as an Electrical Engineer and now as a Project Manager with one of the country’s most well-known power utilities. While working, I pursued a Master’s Degree in Engineering, a testament to my unceasing commitment to personal and professional growth.

Reflecting on my journey, it’s clear that life has a way of steering us down unexpected paths. The woman I have become differs from the one I envisioned as a little girl, but I am truly proud of the milestones I’ve achieved and ongoing evolution.

I want others to know that it’s not only okay but essential to pivot in one’s journey, finding fulfillment in personal growth and embracing change. Every twist and turn happens for a reason, and I am a testament to the power of adaptability and resilience.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Facing and overcoming obstacles is a significant part of my journey, especially as a young African-American woman in the field of engineering. The engineering industry has traditionally been dominated by men, and breaking through these barriers has been a defining aspect of my professional life.

I’ve found that building real, meaningful relationships with people can remove those barriers. When you connect with others on a personal level, they begin to see past stereotypes. They start to recognize you as simply another engineer striving to excel in your role. These relationships not only removed obstacles but have also led to people advocating for me and aiding in my personal and professional growth.

These early challenges in my career have also served as essential preparation for my role as a single mother. The resilience I developed from overcoming invisible battles has given me the patience, grace, and understanding necessary to raise a child effectively.

Obstacles and challenges are an inevitable part of life, and they serve as a test of one’s integrity and character. How you handle these obstacles and emerge on the other side speaks volumes about your ability to adapt and thrive in the face of adversity.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Phýn Project Services?
Phýn Project Services was founded in 2017, initially aimed as virtual back office support for Mary Kay Directors, eventually evolving to aid consultants and directors alike in changes brought on by COVID. Phýn is built on project management expertise to enhance processes and incorporate technology for continued business growth. The primary mission is to simplify delegation for entrepreneurs, enabling them to focus on business and brand development. While initially focused on Mary Kay, Phýn Project Services is now expanding its services to assist small businesses with organization and delegation needs as well.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I’m an emerging writer. Honestly, life has been quite the rollercoaster these past three years, and writing has become very therapeutic.

I’ve reached a point where I believe my life experiences have stories that need to be shared, especially for those who struggle with words and finding outlets to express themselves.

My initial writing project is a prompted journal entitled “Getting Through it: A 90-Day Guided Journal: Navigating Your Healing Journey After Heartbreak.” It’s currently available for purchase on Amazon. In the first quarter of 2024, keep an eye out for more of my work and offerings from Phyn Publishing LLC.
