Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Seheult.
Hi Kimberly, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am originally from Trinidad and Tobago. I came to the United States for University in 1998. After many years of school and working in a variety of mental health settings from the community to the criminal justice system, and private, I found joy in serving families in the community where we settled to raise our kids here in East Cobb, Marietta.
I opened my East Cobb Counseling private practice in 2016. My focus is to provide psychotherapeutic services to individuals, couples, families, children, tweens/teens, and the elderly.
I have developed a team of therapists, psychologists, psychiatrists, and wellness professionals whose primary goal is to work as a resource to treat and enhance holistic psychological living, enhance emotional health, and encourage personal development.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Is there ever a smooth road? All roads have hills, valleys, twists and turns, and even some potholes along the way. Like all roads, my journey has been an adventure.
For every hiccup and obstacle, I have grown. It’s like I tell my clients, you have to take the shit, create fertilizer and grow something new.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
East Cobb Counseling continues to apply evidence-based techniques such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and many others to support clients work through their presenting problems.
What sets my practice apart is our holistic approach to meeting our clients where they are. We are truly a part of our community. We all live here. We understand where our clients are from – from a micro level, living here in Marietta and Atlanta, and from a macro level – where they grew up, taking into consideration their culture, family history, life experiences, race, and circumstances that have molded them into who they are currently.
All those details are important. I pride myself, and my team prides themselves, on taking the time intentionally to explore the ecology of the person. We look at where they came from, where they are, and where they want to be. Then we personalize a growth and development plan that best fits each individual. Our clients must have a buy-in to the process and feel the benefits of change.
My brand goes beyond me. My team and the services we provide our community are both our brand and what sets East Cobb Counseling apart.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
We are a team that meets our clients with cultural competence, honesty, and respect.
We aren’t here to judge or tell our clients what to do. Our goal is to form a trusting relationship, establish healthy boundaries, and be advocates for our client’s personal growth as they navigate their emotions, stressors, challenges, and opportunities.
