Rising Stars: Meet Latoya Clark

Today we’d like to introduce you to Latoya Clark.

Latoya Clark

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Thank you for sharing your powerful journey with us. It’s truly a blessing to see how Butterfly Chats has evolved from my auto journal to a thriving podcast and now to a wellness coaching service and a social media consulting firm, with a focus on empowerment and advocacy for those with chronic pain and their care team. I’m still in shock at how Butterfly Chats took off, with listeners tuning in from 17 countries and close to 2,000 plays.

This speaks volumes about the need for the support and understanding I’m providing. I’m currently in the fourth season of the podcast and we are having more fun than ever. It shows how many people share similar challenges and crave a platform that understands chronic pain. When I think about why I felt this project was important, it’s because of the real impact it has on the community. The messages, emails, and social media interactions all show how much people need a platform like Butterfly Chats Media.

The common idea of “You don’t look sick” reveals the misunderstandings about chronic pain, and our platform is here to change that. The overwhelming support, the sharing of personal stories, and the clear demand for ongoing encouragement have all strengthened the significance and influence of Butterfly Chats. It goes beyond simply recognizing the pain; it’s about helping people navigate, take charge, and craft their own stories, even when dealing with chronic pain.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The journey with Butterfly Chats Media and the podcast has been filled with challenges. Dealing with chronic pain from Fibromyalgia and unspecified autoimmune conditions, along with personal doubts and a lack of motivation, has been incredibly tough.

My dream of becoming a pastry chef was abruptly halted in my late 20s and early 30s when what initially seemed like a common cold turned out to be pneumonia, caused by massive tumors in my abdomen pressing on my bottom two ribs. This sudden health crisis forced me to put a pause on my pastry chef career.

Navigating through the challenges of constant pain, overwhelming fatigue, brain fog, mood swings, and muscle weakness has been an uphill battle. Moreover, dealing with the loss of my father last year added another layer of difficulty to my journey. It was an immensely tough time for me, and I’m still working through the grief.

However, despite these adversities, I remain committed to continuing with Butterfly Chats. My struggles have underscored the importance of our work, and I’m determined to persevere, no matter what obstacles come my way.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
At Butterfly Chats Media, our mission is to empower women with chronic pain with compassion, awareness, and hope. We specialize in providing knowledge, skills, and inspiration to help them walk in their authentic selves using the power of social media to find their passion.

What sets us apart is our dedication to healthcare. Unlike conventional media outlets, our core focus remains firmly on healthcare, with a vision to expand into diverse media realms while actively supporting the chronically ill community.

We are known for being an author and providing information on passive income and UGC creation. However, what I am most proud of are my recent books: “Lord Teach My Soul to Sing” and my upcoming novel “The Iron Butterfly.” “Lord Teach My Soul to Sing” is a passion project I wrote in my 20s. It’s a devotional journal set to guide the reader into a higher level of self-reflection. “The Iron Butterfly” is my first novel based on my diagnosis journey with fibromyalgia.

In today’s society, the chronically ill are often sidelined and unfairly stigmatized as lazy or lacking motivation. However, the reality is far from it; they simply lack the necessary support to thrive. This is where Butterfly Chats Media steps in. Our podcast serves as a vital platform for sharing the authentic stories of the chronically ill, while also disseminating crucial information tailored to their needs.

Our commitment extends beyond audio content; we’re dedicated to providing educational and entertaining reading materials, ensuring that the chronically ill community has access to resources that empower and uplift them. Through our holistic approach, we aim to break down barriers, foster understanding, and ultimately, facilitate positive change within this underserved community.

Additionally, we have a book club called the Hopeful Horizon Collective, where we utilize “Lord Teach My Soul to Sing” as a foundation and delve into each poem. It’s a five-week commitment with like-minded souls, all striving to end the quarter better than they started it. Through this holistic approach, we aim to break down barriers, foster understanding, and ultimately facilitate positive change within this underserved community.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Ah, COVID, the dreaded “C” word that turned our world upside down. Surprisingly, it was COVID-19 that gave me the final push to get the podcast going. It was almost a thought of “Hey, what else do you have to do?” But in all seriousness, COVID-19 opened up new doors for me.

Despite the world seemingly closing down for three years, it actually expanded my horizons. Through platforms like Zoom and virtual meetings, I connected with incredible people I wouldn’t have otherwise met. It became a practice I still continue today – reaching out beyond my normal borders.

In this unexpected journey, I discovered that I can do hard things. I learned that I have the capacity to be a leader, things I never imagined myself doing before COVID. Despite the challenges it brought, COVID-19 taught me valuable lessons about resilience, adaptability, and the power of human connection.
