Today we’d like to introduce you to Mia Wilson.
Hi Mia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hello beautiful people! I’m Mia (my-yuh), a small-town girl from Rome, GA.
My family serves as my steadfast anchor, their unwavering support and encouragement have been the guiding light through life’s twists and turns. Family isn’t just a word – it’s the very essence of who I am, and the source of endless happiness in my life. And as if my heart couldn’t be any fuller, this August, I’ll be marrying my best friend, adding a new chapter of love and joy to our family’s story.
As a former competitive cheerleader, I’ve flipped, tumbled, and danced my way through life, embracing every challenge with enthusiasm. Breaking barriers and making history as the first black Miss Pepperell at my high school, I’ve learned the power of perseverance and the importance of representation.
Now, let’s talk makeup. Growing up, I kept it simple under Mom’s watchful eye – a dash of mascara here, a flick of black liner there. But once high school beckoned, I spread my wings and embraced my own makeup era.
My journey into the world of makeup truly began when my big sister, who is 10 years older than me, introduced me to it. During her visits home from college, she would teach me various techniques like eyeshadow blending, brow shaping, and how to make the perfect cut crease. I eagerly absorbed everything she taught me and spent countless hours practicing what I learned while watching makeup tutorials on YouTube.
As the years went by, I honed my skills and found my own style. When the pandemic hit, I decided to start making makeup tutorial videos as a creative outlet. To my surprise, my videos gained traction and caught the attention of notable brands like The Lip Bar, Dose of Colors, and Mented Cosmetics.
Collaborating with these brands was a dream come true, and it allowed me to further develop my passion for makeup while sharing my knowledge with others. Today, I continue to create content that not only showcases my skills but also promotes self-love and encourages others to embrace their natural beauty & simply let makeup enhance it!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Makeup has no rules, and embracing this freedom has only fueled my determination to explore endless possibilities and push creative boundaries. This has been such an exciting journey because my passion for makeup and sharing with others has taken me down a path I never could have anticipated. I’m excited to see what’s next on this fulfilling journey!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I work at Junior Achievement of Georgia, where I facilitate JA Finance Park, a program where 7th graders step into the shoes of an adult for a day and learn essential financial management skills. It’s incredibly rewarding to be part of an organization that not only makes a difference but also changes children’s perspectives on themselves and their potential. I’ve always had a passion for working with kids, and being part of Junior Achievement has given me a gift that brings me pure joy.
I strive for excellence in my work, ensuring our students have the best possible experience because they only get to come through our program once. I specialize in facilitating experiential learning opportunities that empower students to make informed financial decisions. I’m known for my dedication to providing engaging and impactful educational experiences that leave a lasting impression on students.
What I’m most proud of is the positive impact I’ve had on the lives of the students I work with. Seeing them gain confidence in managing their finances and envisioning brighter futures for themselves is incredibly fulfilling. What sets me apart from others is my genuine passion for working with kids and my commitment to excellence in everything I do. I strive to create meaningful experiences that inspire and empower students to reach their full potential.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I absolutely love Atlanta for its vibrant culture, diverse food scene, and constant buzz of activity. There’s always something exciting happening, whether it’s a music festival, art exhibition, or delicious food festival to explore.
However, if I could snap my fingers and change one thing about the city, it would definitely be the traffic congestion and the condition of the roads, especially within the city limits. Despite this challenge, Atlanta’s energy and opportunities make it a city like no other.
