Conversations with Monique Rice

Today we’d like to introduce you to Monique Rice.

Monique Rice

Hi Monique, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
This is so crazy. My Bestie from 1st grade was having a book retreat for her recent Greater U graduates, and I offered my catering services for the weekend. While I was cooking for those 3 days and 2 nights, I got to gain some knowledge around selling the cure to the problem. This is when I decided to begin my author journey and writing 1st of many books. I currently have an ebook with my Top 10 recipes from my food truck, Palate Teezers, and my 1st self-published book with my co-author/son Dennis Great, “8” Adventure. I have completed several motivational speaking engagements and training seminars across the world.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Whew, I wish I could say it was easy. It is not an easy task to walk in my shoes. When I was attending Greater U University, I had a lot of irons in the fire. I was a full-time mom, full-time executive for a bank, full-time entrepreneur (food truck), and full-time caregiver my mother with dementia. This is why I love to provide my testimony, but I also hold others accountable because, despite all the tasks, I was able to preserve through them all. I wanted to be in the #1 spot in everything I do, so working those long hours to produce content that can help others was priceless for me.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The struggles for me was taking time for “personal” me. I was so caught up with making sure every person or every job in my life was successful that I forgot how important is was to focus on my own goals and dreams. It is a must to hold yourself accountable for setting deadlines and executing. When I attended the 2nd authors retreat in Mexico, I unlocked my reason for reset. The reset allowed me to clear my mind and put what was important to me first, and once completed, it made me a better person.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I love about ATL is that it reminds me of my hometown, NYC. It has everything a CityGal needs to maintain city life. Not to mention, a lot of my peoples and associates had relocated down here so it just like being home.

The least I like about the city is that everything is so far away. I am from Queens, NY, where we are in the middle of all the boros. 20 mins each way, and you at your destination. What I do love is that ATL showed so much support with the Dennis Great “8” Adventure. Now, I call it Little New York. So many NYC natives have relocated, and the city has embraced us in the city.
