Today we’d like to introduce you to Tess Hammock
Hi Tess, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
As a on -air host and television personality, I’ve always enjoyed story telling and engaging with audiences. That’s why my current show, Casting Call with Tess Hammock, is so special to me. I get to work with the incredible team at Fox 5 Atlanta to bring our Atlanta audience into the ultimate story telling adventure, the film and television industry! Each week, I showcase featured and background actor opportunities, jobs behind the camera and in the industry, events for workforce development, and news.
Before we created Casting Call, I worked with America’s #1 shopping network, QVC, and as a host for live events all over the country. In addition to on-camera work, I also also my own production company, Mom’s Attic Productions, where we can supply crew and talent for any size project.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Before I began my career in entertainment, I actually worked in politics and government right out of college. I guess that is it’s own form of entertainment for some people but at 25, I realized I wanted to create a career path that was truly fun rather than build someone else’s dream. I don’t recommend this but I quit my position in government without another job lined up. While I would probably do it differently today, I see the value in leaving myself no other option. I feel like many people defer diving into a creative career because it is more unstable but ‘burning the boats’ challenges you to making it work. Sink or swim.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m very proud that my segment on Good Day Atlanta is a true public service. As a on -air host and television personality, I’ve always enjoyed story telling and engaging with audiences. It’s a real ‘atta girl’ when sources around town recognize the show, like Atlantan Magazine featuring the show on their June ‘Power List’. Being featured among some of the state’s biggest names was a true honor.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
I’d say if you’re planning on changing careers, give yourself a lot of grace.
I always like to ‘leave room for magic’, because you never know what can happen if you put yourself in front of the right people.
Work like everything is up to you, pray like everything is up to God.
Be excited about your work and partner with people who are just as passionate.
