Today we’d like to introduce you to Alicia Gonzalez
Hi Alicia , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I have always had a passion for photography since my kids were younger. I used to capture every precious moment. I guess I’m the typical Mom…Later, I started making music and became an artist. This is what led me to my photography journey. During this time I was unable to find a decent photographer in my area to take pictures for my music pages. So I bought a camera so my daughter could take my pictures and I also started to take photos of other music artists and Fashion Shows. During quarantine time I was in Atlanta and I decided to take professional photography classes online for several months to take it to the next level. So once everything opened up I was able to go to several fashion events. Every event led to even more events then I decided this is my new passion. I have always been an entrepreneur and always love to learn new things. Later, I moved to DMV area and attended of events mostly in DC and now I decided to relocate to Atlanta area since it’s the perfect place to grow since it’s full of talent. Every event I attended helped me grow and learn more about photography and then the feedback made me want to take it more seriously. I also began to travel to other cities for events. I was the lead photographer at DC kids fashion show and now Atlanta kids fashion show. I recently attended Atlanta Youth fashion show for a youth empowerment event including local artists. I plan on attending more empowering events in the future.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been a smooth road along my journey because I volunteered at so many events and so I didn’t get paid in the beginning. Also, I had to take my time to learn so much about photography and editing, posing and how to work at large events. I had a lot of trial and error. Being an entrepreneur has also made it difficult since I was trying to balance everything at once. But I decided to take a break from music and focus on photography. I had to work hard to build my portfolio and promote my own work. I had to learn how to also do studio and location photography. (There’s a big difference). I also created my own website during a fast from social media thanks to my mentor/best friend. I think that being a photographer you have to learn how to be independent and focused and always creative. Being creative helps me and the clients make beautiful images together. I taught my daughter a lot about photography and she has always been my assistant and personal photographer since the beginning. I usually ask her for feedback and ideas and she’s very creative.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am currently working with the government and in the process of starting my Photography business. I want to focus more on empowerment and fashion events. I enjoy using photography as a way to make people happy and empowered and able to also share their story.
What’s next?
I plan on working at several events with the youth in my area to help keep them busy with something positive. I was invited to attend several youth empowerment events this year and next year.
