Rising Stars: Meet Brian Langford of Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Langford

Hi Brian, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey in music started as a kid. My mom was a piano teacher and taught me piano afterschool. I then took up band in middle and high school and it was in the summer before my sophomore year that I took up music production. I remember just browsing YouTube at night and for some reason a Ad for the new Maschine and I thought that looks cool. After that I got it for my birthday (s/o my parents for the b-day gift) and I just immersed myself in all the Metro/Southside cook up videos or bts studio footage I could trying to learn the sound and how to improve my beats.

Fast forward to junior year and I’m now not only making beats but learning how to engineer since there were some rappers at my school and kept getting asked about studio time. I got FL thru a friend of mine and found a free version of studio one to record ppl off of. I did free sessions for like 3/4 months then charged $20 a song once I kinda knew what I was doing. Simultaneously I was also expanding my network and started to go to the Beatstars cook ups they had at SAE back in like 2018/19. It was there I got locked in with a whole bunch of different producers, artist, engineers, and platforms such as producergrind, JBeats, and my brother $hroomz2Cold [Free Him!!!]. I also was blessed enough to go to Dallas for ProducerGrinds first event out there placing second in the beat battle and meeting fellow producers! I also remember going out to the city with the homies and dropping off USBs and Flyers for beats and studio time wherever I could. Didn’t matter if it was WaxnFacts or Patchwork I would always try and see. Worst that could be said was no!

Senior year was what I would say was my real push into the Atlanta scene. $hroomz starts introducing me to a lot of different folks and bringing me along to almost all the sessions he would get invited too. My routine was literally school, studio, repeat (unless I had practice or a game). It was then I met my mentor with the engineering Knottz, was going to grand hustle a couple times a week, got my first placements with Ferrari Simmons, Runway Richy, and others I just can’t remember lol. We then spent a lot of time working with Black Circle [Money Man’s Label] and that was a major boost to my engineering game since almost everyone in the circle is mad versed in Pro Tools. S/O JuneyKnottz and JRoc for the game. But yeah between them and Knottz I definitely learned alot of technique and how to have the speed you need to work with the punch in artists and keep up which is very very important.

After Graduation a lot of things happened me and $hroomz signed with our publisher Lashell Lane leading us to get sync placements with Tyler Perry, BET, and Starz and a lot of opportunities with all different types of artists and genres. Ive also been blessed enough to work with a lot of artists and labels such as Pewee Longway, Enchanting, Bic Fizzle, K Shiday, Karlae, Sukihana, Londyn B, Kap G, Offset, Asian Doll, Tonay Marie, Izzarah, Generation Now, AE, YFN, and others.

Just fyi the shows are P-Valley and All The Queens Men

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One major challenge for me was and still is just making sure to have the right people around you. Ive learned the hard way multiple times that you need to ensure that anyone representing you or your interests is doing good business with not only you but everyone because the game especially in atlanta is very small and closed knit when it comes to the real playmakers.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a producer, engineer, and songwriter. I guess you can say im known for my super clean and ambient mixes engineering wise and when it comes to production im known for having a beat for most every genre or artist. I’m most proud of my journey and how far ive come. I started this watching nothing but youtube videos and working out of my bedroom to working with some of my favorite artists in quarter million dollar plus rooms. The kicker that this isn’t even the start if im being honest. I would say what sets me apart is my versatility, attention to detail, and pure passion for music. I’m not just someone who makes beats, I produce records and allow artists to see a creative path they might have never thought to take before.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
My favorite thing about Atlanta is our hospitality and genuineness. You can literally come here meet the right people and elevate yourself to the stratosphere. You just have to make sure you keep your facecard clean and don’t hang around any lames because just as quick as you can go up you can come right back down.

My least favorite thing is the traffic I will never understand how there can be standstill traffic at 2 in the morning lmao
pro tip make sure you set your gps up to show you no highway routes
