Today we’d like to introduce you to Yardyne Day
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started working in the printing industry over 30 years ago, selling labels, tags, and business forms—cold calling on over 25 commercial businesses daily. After cold calling in a building one day, I got stuck in the stairwell and figured there had to be a better way. There was a tradeshow in town that week. I attended it and returned to my office with a bag of goodies (specialty advertising products). The light bulb came on, and that’s where it all started. Before starting my business, I worked as a purchasing agent for a local governmental municipality and obtained valuable knowledge on buying.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Like most industries, the printing/promotional products industry is up and down. As the song says, “I have had some good days, I’ve had some hills to climb, I’ve had some weary days and some sleepless nights!”
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Networking is an art that goes beyond a business card. It asks, “What can I do to help you build your business?” I replaced cold calling with networking. Always have a strategy when you plan to network. Depending on the event, I usually bring 50-100 business cards. My goal is to meet 50-100 people at that event. If it’s a small event, I will take fewer cards and plan to meet fewer people. Always have a pen and wear a suit that has pockets. I work the room, join conversations, introduce myself, and listen to others at the table or where we are gathered. I like to get their information so I can follow up with a short nice-to-meet-you email and ask them if they would like to have coffee soon. Networking is essentially “givers gain”; you gain knowledge, perhaps a new client or friend.
Finding a mentor is easy, but finding the right mentor is not. I have two mentors who have mentored me for over twenty years. When something comes up where I need to brainstorm, I contact my mentors; one is male, and one is female. One of my mentors works in the printing industry, and the other is a trailblazer. She’s been doing her own thing for a very long time. She continues to inspire and encourage me.
