Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Palmore-Amos
Hi Jessica, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
What inspired me to create The Baldheaded Life was the word “baldheaded” itself. Growing up in my neighborhood, being called baldheaded was meant to tear you down, to make you feel less than because of your lack of hair. The way hair looked played such a major role in how others treated you and how you saw yourself. For me, I wanted to change the narrative around that word and embrace what it truly means to be bald.
Another significant factor was my own frustration with the hair industry. I found myself feeling defeated every time I had to get my hair done, whether at a salon or with a stylist. The hair business is a serious money-making industry, and over time, I just didn’t want to be a part of it anymore. The appointments, the long wait times, the added costs, it all wore me down. Not to mention the time it took to style my hair—between the hours spent at the salon and the maintenance, it was trying on my life.
So, one day, I looked at my head and thought, “I’ve got a great shape. To hell with hair.” I shaved it off, and I never looked back. Today, it costs me nothing to do my hair—a fly pair of earrings and bold frames, and I’m all set. The freedom that comes with being bald is unmatched. I don’t have to worry about swimming in the summer, my hair is a non-factor, and I love that. The simplicity and confidence that came with shaving my head led me to want to share this with others.
I wanted The Baldheaded Life to not just be about me, but to redefine the term “baldheaded” for everyone. It’s about empowerment, self-love, and confidence. I want women (and even men) to understand that hair doesn’t define who you are—or what you can achieve.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Building a brand from scratch was challenging, especially because this is my first time being an entrepreneur. The biggest hurdle was learning the ropes of marketing, branding, and managing the daily operations of the business. There’s a lot to juggle, and the learning curve can be steep. I had to really dig deep, figure things out on my own, and take it one step at a time.
But honestly, I haven’t faced much pushback in terms of people rejecting the brand. More and more women are embracing their natural beauty and stepping away from wigs, lacefronts, and weaves. Women are proud to own their baldness, and it feels amazing to be part of that movement. It’s become clear that this is something people are really ready for, and it’s been incredible to witness.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Before starting The Baldheaded Life, I spent many years working in the aviation industry, a career that taught me the importance of discipline, attention to detail, and problem-solving. Those skills have translated into how I run my business today. While my previous work experience was far from the beauty and fashion industry, it equipped me with a strong foundation for leadership, customer service, and strategic thinking—skills that are crucial for running any successful business.
What I do now with The Baldheaded Life is not just about selling apparel; it’s about creating a movement. I specialize in empowering women (and men) who embrace their baldness, whether it’s by choice or due to health reasons. I’m known for advocating for the freedom and confidence that comes with being bald, and I want to change the negative connotations associated with being bald. My brand isn’t just about physical appearance; it’s about mental and emotional strength. It’s about reclaiming power over how you look and how you feel about yourself.
What sets me apart is the personal connection I have with the brand. The Baldheaded Life isn’t just a business for me—it’s a passion rooted in my own experiences of feeling defeated by hair and beauty standards. I’m not just promoting a product; I’m sharing a mindset, a lifestyle, and a new definition of beauty. The journey from hair struggles to bald empowerment gives my brand authenticity and depth, and I believe that resonates with people.
I’m most proud of how far the brand has come, particularly how it’s been embraced by a diverse group of people, not just women. The fact that men have also found inspiration in The Baldheaded Life has been a huge source of pride. At the heart of it all, I’m proud to know that my work is helping people feel confident, free. That’s what keeps me going every day.
What does success mean to you?
For me, success isn’t just about financial gains—it’s about impact. I want The Baldheaded Life to help baldheaded women, whether it’s due to health reasons or by choice, embrace who they are with confidence. I want to help them feel proud of their baldness and celebrate the power that comes with it.
A key moment that made me realize The Baldheaded Life was making a real impact was when I began receiving orders for the brand. The first few invoices felt like a real milestone, and when I noticed that men, too, were drawn to the brand, it really hit home for me. I felt accomplished, knowing that the message of empowerment was resonating beyond just women.
Ultimately, success for me is seeing the positive effect the brand has on people’s lives. If I can help someone feel confident and proud of who they are—bald or not—that, to me, is the ultimate measure of success.
