Exploring Life & Business with Emani Jones of Minked by Emani

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emani Jones

Hi Emani , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I took a virtual lash course at the start of the pandemic, back in 2020. I was in my junior year of college and just starting nursing school, and wanted to start a hobby that I could also benefit from financially. Unfortunately, we didn’t truly understand the full extent of the pandemic and I was unable to invite clients into my parent’s home. It’s been sitting on my heart for the last 4 years to start lashing again. I took the leap and took another lash course back in December of 2024. I believe it is God that I had to wait 5 years, as I am now in a better place financially and have more time to dedicate to Lash Artistry. Although I’m a novice Lash Artist, the unwavering support from friends, sorority sisters and my fellow nurse friends lets me know that I am supposed to be a Lash Artist.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it has been far from easy. We are in a time that social media plays a huge role in the marketing aspect of your business. I am still working full time while lashing late at night or early in the morning, depending on what my clients need. “Putting myself out there” has always been something I’ve struggled with, as I am private and simply don’t like rejection (It’s the only-child syndrome I suppose).Lashing has pushed me out of my comfort zone. I remember a few months ago I was in Ulta and a group of young ladies came in in front of me. I built the courage up and asked them if they would be interested in a free set of lashes. They were very receptive of me and connected to my social media without hesitation. I learned that day that you have to be fearless and bold, even if you aren’t where you want to be in your skill set. I’m still gaining my confidence in my Lash sets as well as constantly posting on TikTok and instagram, which can be exhausting. However, I wouldn’t change my journey at all.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
What sets me apart from others is my passion to create individualized Lash Looks for each client. No clients’ set looks the exact same as the next. I also believe my excellent customer service sets me apart. I ensure each client receives a warm blanket and light refreshment before each appointment, as well as detailed after care instructions. I don’t treat my client like I am doing them a favor by doing their lashes, but moreso an honor and privilege. In a money hungry world where service providers are charging an unreasonable amount, all of my lash sets are affordable. I remember being in college and wanting lashes but could never afford them. I was a Resident Assistant while being a full time student , which paid about $250 a month . I aim for college students specifically, as I understand the struggles of being a “Baddie On a Budget”. I discuss with the client what they’re looking for and aim to succeed.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
My aunt, Keisha Carter has played a major role in my success. She has allowed me to use some of her space to do lashes until I can afford a suite. She has owned her own business for over 20 years and has been very insightful as I try to navigate certain components of my business. As an over thinker, she encourages me to ponder less and pursue at maximum effort. When Keisha noticed I haven’t had consistent clients, she asks what I’m doing to get them in the door. She’s more than a cheerleader, she’s part of my inspiration to never give up!
