Today we’d like to introduce you to Jill Burnsed.
Hi Jill, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I always liked taking pictures with my sister and mom growing up. We loved to dress up and have fun in front of the camera. Over time, I appreciated capturing the memories of other people. That’s why my slogan is “A little something extra,” because I loved those extra moments of catching a smile or joyous moment. Photos just make me happy.
Originally from Florida, Jill Burnsed is a veteran agriculture, outdoor, sports, health, and wellness photographer based in Georgia. Her heritage-, place-, and people-powered visuals celebrate everyday lifestyles and milestone moments primarily surfaced in the American South. Jill’s artistry has traveled the globe – Rome, Tuscany, Belize, the Caribbean, and Mexico – affording her international opportunities to refine her craft while connecting with other cultures, local communities, and nature scenes. She often couples her Southern storytelling projects in America’s rural South with outdoor adventure experiences in the American West. She relishes exploration of national treasures and destinations like Red Rock and Grand canyons.
In the past year, I’ve been featured in Justin Boots in collaboration with agriculture journalist Cowgirl Candace to capture the rodeo and rural lifestyles of cowhands and farmers. This ongoing storytelling series has been so much fun to learn about her life as a fourth-generation agriculturalist and the agribusiness and agritourism stories connected her lifestyle. An eye-opening project and honor to participate in.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Go. For. It! Do it and never hesitate to try. With Christ everything is possible. Continue to practice your craft. Not everything is going to turn out just perfect at first. Test and retry until you get into your rhythm. I’ve taken a million photos throughout my 16-year photography career to get to this point where I’m able to provide a service my community appreciates and wants. Practice. Practice. Practice. Find mentors and ask for constructive feedback along the way.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m super excited about the release of Canadian publication Trailblazher Magazine, which features my cover story and inside imagery of Cowgirl Candace. We made history together for Smalltown USA, and that’s a big deal. It’s also senior season so I’m preparing for Mary Persons High School’s graduation activities to cover. I’m also looking forward to capturing more innovative cowhands and farmers for Justin Boots in partnership with Cowgirl Candace across our Peach State during the summer months.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Id love to see the industry stay right where it is- small town love and recognition.
