Today we’d like to introduce you to Ray Tookes.
Hi Ray, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m from the east side of Atlanta ga where I began writing. What first started out as poetry expressing my frustrations quickly turned into lyrics for music. I’ve been entertained my family with music since I was around 7 years old. Fast forward to 2014 I was at Savannah state and met a Dj by the name Cooley makin moves. He introduced me to the night life of a dj and also showed me how to record my own music on my MacBook through garage band. From there I took off and never stopped. I began taking my music more seriously once I moved back to Atlanta in 2017. I linked up with my brother now manager Tru Mc, who was formally with the group The Alliance who had hit song “Tatted up” featuring Fabo. We began attacking the Atlanta music scene and making myself known as an Artist who is serious. To date I’ve released 4 projects and 6 singles. By 2021 me and my manager were able to partner up and start our own show with a live band called “FollowMe Atl”. This show took the city by storm and is now 20 artists strong. Now entering into 2025 I have achieved another goal by having 4 of my songs placed on the sound track of movie “Allure part one” starring Young Joc.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not a smooth road. I’ve heard no on many occasions, I’ve hit many road blocks. I’ve had co managers up and disappear on me. I’m blessed to know several people in the industry from my early teen years but a lot of those people refuse to help. But that has not and will never stop me from going for my goals
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a Rapper, songwriter, visionary, entrepreneur, and Co owner. As an artist I specialize in energy and lyrics. Of course being from the south I can’t stray too far away from trap music but I also love the sport of rap itself. I love a good punchline just as much as the next person
What makes you happy?
Swing the finish line of a project I started makes me happy. Seeing the results and the reactions whether it’s good or bad. I’m happy with anybody taking the time out of their day to take a view through my eyes and listen to what I have to say or contribute
