Today we’d like to introduce you to Queen Majeeda.
Hi Queen, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started writing as a teenager. At 15, I received a recording contract after submitting a song to a recording company in the US. I was living in Jamaica at the time. I was too young to sign it so my father signed it for me. However, I changed my mind and decided to wait until after high school. I recorded my debut album, Conscious which was distributed by Heartbeat Records in the US, and by Tuff Gong Records in the Caribbean.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely has not been a smooth road but it has been an adventurous journey and I love adventure. I got to tour the US and performed all over my native island.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a poet and recording artist. I am most proud of my latest album, Wedding Invitation, and also becoming a member of the Recording Academy. I am also proud of the fact that I am a mother, educator, and poet juggling all three responsibilities. It’s not easy but I manage to find balance. I believe what sets me apart from the others is that my recordings are Biblically inspired, in addition to reflecting the times we’re living in. I believe God is so intertwined in our lives and our destiny is only apart from Him if we ignore Him and live as if we created ourselves.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I think being true to oneself is most important. Also, the fact that I don’t give up easily at all. As a result, I have been blessed to have people who continue to support and collaborate with me. We don’t exist in a bubble. When we find our purpose in life, there are always others pursuing theirs who are willing to collaborate. Working with others allows us to experience growth and learn from each other.
