Today we’d like to introduce you to Candace Bell.
Hi Candace, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My goal has always been to inspire others to be creative and to be their most authentic selves to the fullest extent. I’ve always created small vlogs on YouTube as a young girl for entertainment, but one day I realize there aren’t many hairstyles for braids that are creative. So at the age of 15, I created different unique hairstyles that are achievable with braids. I would share them on Instagram just for creative purposes. Little did I know I would inspire many other black girls from around the world on wearing their braids. At first my goal wasn’t necessarily to inspire others, but when I realized my gift, I kept creating because it brings me and others joy. In my own life now, I’m always still creating, and inspiring others but differently. I create self improvement videos not just for others but for myself. I guess you could say it’s a self digital diary, but one I share with others. I don’t know what the future holds, and how I’ll change, but through whatever I’m doing, I hope I’m inspiring at least one person.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Going though changes from a 15 year old girl who started to create content, to now a 18 year old young woman who is discovering herself. It hasn’t always been smooth. No one is the same person they were when they were 15. I went through physical changes and mindset changes. Creating content on social media when I was 15, I knew what I wanted to do, but as I grew up, I felt like what I did wasn’t allowing me to grow. I wanted to try different things outside my comfort zone. Even now as a 18 year old young woman, I’m still discovering new things. But through all the changes, my goal remains the same.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I chose “Other”, because I don’t want to categorize myself. I feel like it limits to what I could possibly do. Right now, I’m known for modeling and creating self improvement content. But hey who knows, I could become a creative director the next days. I’m most proud of my strive to always show up as my best self. My motto in life right now is “Follow the plan, not the mood.” Although I acknowledge my emotions, I always follow through with the plan, because you never know who’s out there watching. What sets me apart from others is my energy overall. Being able to look at life from a peaceful perspective isn’t something everyone can do, so I’m happy to share that gift with others to inspire them.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My biggest cheerleader is my mom! Actually when I first started content creating, she wasn’t aware. Some of things I posted were things I knew she wouldn’t approve of..lol. I remember the day she found out through my cousin, and she told me although she was disappointed with some of the things I posted, she was in awe of my gift. From there, she didn’t criticize me, she encouraged me to keep going. But also managing me since I was still a minor at the time. Since then, she is always behind the scenes pushing me to keep going. She sees my gift, and it even inspires her to keep pushing.
