Today we’d like to introduce you to Spencer Nicks.
Hi Spencer , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Hello my name is Spencer nicks, I was raised on the Kentucky/Indiana boarder and moved to Atlanta , Ga in 2011 when I was 19.
As a teen I had dreams of modeling. I loved being in front of a camera. I’d always come up with photoshoot ideas, usually leaning more towards sexy photos, for example, posing with a basketball and boy shorts on. After graduating from Henderson county high school, I quickly became known in the community and started to shoot for party flyers and also selling my image on posters. At this point, my dream/ goal was to be in playboy.
Not long after party flyers and the hustle of selling my own image, A photographer, Malloy, found me on model mayhem and that lead me from traveling back and forth from Kentucky to Atlanta. I didn’t have a car so I would often take the grey hound or catch a ride with a friend. During my Atlanta visits I would shoot 10-12 hour days with Malloy, the style of photos were similar to what I had been doing since I was a younger teen, sexy, cute, and capturing my personality. It was the time of my life. I was slowly starting to make some income and decide to up and move to Atlanta with a few trash bags of belongings, $100, no car, and no place to live. Somehow I knew id figure it out and I did!
After 6 months of staying with one of Malloy’s friends, I ended up moving to sandy springs (rent was $500 at the time) I also worked at whichever restaurants I could get to by foot. I can’t remember the names but i know it was in the Prado at sandy springs. I’d do bottle service at places like 200 Peachtree and even started traveling to Alabama on the weekends where I would work at gentlemen clubs that weren’t full exposure.
Shortly after, I met a man in Atlanta and we started dating. After a while we ended up getting pregnant with our first daughter, then 2 years later I got pregnant with our second daughter. During the time of the pregnancies I stopped modeling, not sure if thats what I wanted to continue with.
When my youngest was one, me and dad split up and I went full force back into modeling again. My supporters were excited and so was I! I jumped back in with my old photographer friend, Malloy, and we began working again, but there was one issues, the owner of the company who would write our checks, stopped paying on time. Months would go by without payment, me being owed thousands, I had enough and realized I was never going to get paid, that’s when I turned to a brand new website that dealt with similar content I made called, only fans, after about a year of working it day and night myself, I was able to make 30k a month. When I could no longer stay up til 3am and then get up at 6am with the kids, I started looking for help from management. A huge company partnered with me and we tripled my income. After about 2 years I started realizing this company was actually hurting my brand by falsely advertising my content, which is never how I liked to do business, so I left and haven’t looked back. Now I’m mainly running things by myself, with a little help from others, bc let’s face it, to run an account with over 100,000 members, would be impossible to do yourself.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Getting to know who I am, stand strong in my boundaries, not letting others dilute who I am and what my dreams were.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am most proud of standing strong in who I am. When I first started modeling still living in Kentucky I’d get the worst hate messages. People who I thought were my friends would message me nasty hateful things, strangers I never met before would tell me to unalive myself. I’m so proud of myself for standing strong and continuing on with so much negativity thrown my way at a young age.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Sex appeal sales. Period. But it flows with the economy. When the economy is down sales and opportunities are down, and when it’s up sales and opportunities are up.
