Rising Stars: Meet G. Cook of Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to G. Cook.

Hi G., please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My origin story is much like anyone else’s. I began very young, making doodles of food and whatever else my budding mind was inspired by. It wasn’t until I entered the foster care system that I began to understand that I really had a gift. Throughout my formative and teen years, my art graduated to a signature way of art-making whether that was with my fashion sketches or character mock-ups for graphic stories I never gave the chance to develop. Fast forward to my late twenties and after a lot of thought (I mean, seven years worth of thought), in December of 2024, I finally decided to bet on myself. To give one of my gifts a shot. With conviction and (finally) some trust, I filled for my LLC with the name CRSNT Moon Artistries. The name “CRSNT” derived from the idea of the crescent moon we see at least every few weeks. As of now, my vision is budding as if it were a new seedling, and I am so excited to witness its growth.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road has not been the easiest, but that doesn’t mean it hasn’t been worth it. After completing high school, I originally had my mind made up to study graphic design for my undergrad. Eventually I left that idea in exchange for an overall Studio Art degree as this was my opportunity to try every single form of art-making (academically possible that is). During these long almost ten years of completing my degree, life as usual, always had other side plots for me to deal with. As stated, I grew up in the foster care system for majority of my young life. I had a lot of overall turmoil that hindered a lot of my personal growth that, I can admit, I hid behind. I can also admit that I didn’t have much trust in myself beyond the lack of trust I received from my “support system” during those formative years of my life.. but as of late, after finally understanding that I hold the power not only to my life, but the changes that I aspire to bring to this world, I am so proud to say that is why I am here today.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am currently a mobile paint and sip instructor. I also am a working professional painting artist. Regarding my paint and sip portion or my business, I not only provide the supplies and bring them to your events, but I also provide a knowledge that can help the consumers bridge the gap on what they want to show in their works of art. I say this to say that my approach with my paint and sip is to not only provide a “vibe” but also an opportunity to learn something new, to maybe pass on to others. I am proud that I am bridging a gap between academics and fun, while also building new relationships and making new memories.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I am definitely a risk taker, but I am also calculated. A lot of the risks I take come from time and effort of research, trust, and the decision to “just try and see what happens”. I feel that this really began while I was a freshman in college willing to take a 12 hour bus ride to and from Philly by myself to see my estranged mother I hadn’t seen in almost 5 years at the time. I guess after that, risk-taking just became a part of my personality. Taking risks to me, is simply just betting on yourself. Betting on the fact that you are taking a chance that has a 50/50 chance of working in your favor. There is only but so much planning you can do with this type of opportunity, but that doesn’t mean you still cant try. Even when things don’t go as planned, its still a time to reflect, learn, and in total, charge it to the game because if there is one thing I know for certain in life, is that some times things don’t always work out how we would like. And that’s okay. As long as you are still breathing, you have another opportunity to take a chance again.
