Hidden Gems: Meet Brian Kemp of The Promo Trap

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Kemp.

Hi Brian, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started out as an aspiring hip-hop artist around 2005. During those years we would always purchase printed products to try and promote our music in the Atlanta area. Around those times the only way to be seen was by using posters, flyers, t-shirts, CD’s and etc.;so you can imagine how much money it would cost to get noticed in Atl with so much competition. So i started out by taking the CD’s that we would use to promote and sell them for a $1 each. Once i started i made a substantial amount of money suprisingly quick. I used that money to re-invest into the machines that i could use to produce the CD’s myself and continued the same formula everyday. After a while, by being out and about so much; people begin to notice me. I met more and more aspiring artist as well as major artist within the city. These people needed the same services that i can now provide for them. At that point i began to print for all artist (Indie & Major) that needed promo material.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t think it could ever be smooth as an true entrepeneur mainly due to uncertainty. My struggles would include gaining capital, having to sacrifice certain things that you may enjoy, working 24/7, time away from family and friends. Being a business owner is not as glamorous as may think in the beginning stages.

We are a commercial print shop that specializes in Same Day/ Next Day Printing. We offer everything from Business Cards, Flyers, Banners, T-Shirts, CD/DVD Duplication, Car Wraps and much more!!! We are mostly known for printing promotional products for indie as well as major recording artist since 2008. I am proud of being known as one of Atl’s secret weapons when it comes to print and promotion. We are located in Riverdale, and enjoy working w/ local businesses, artist, and more to help bring your project to life!!!

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
I have so many. But I think just hanging out with family in friends in the neighborhood!
