Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Massingill.
Hi Brittany, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Planted Wellness grew from something deeply personal, my own little garden. It started as a way to grow fresh food and herbs for myself, right in my backyard. That passion soon sprouted into a full-blown greenhouse obsession, where I found myself surrounded by medicinal herbs, native plants, and the quiet magic of nurturing things from seed to harvest.
As I learned more, I realized just how hard it was to find locally grown medicinal herbs and native plants in our area. There was a real gap, not just in access to these plants, but in the knowledge around how to grow and use them. So I started Planted Wellness Co. as a side hustle, all while working a full-time job in corporate marketing. For that first year, I was hustling – working markets every weekend, building community connections, and teaching people that wellness could start in their own backyards.
Then, in October 2024, I was laid off. After years of climbing the corporate ladder, I was exhausted and burned out. But it felt like a sign. I had already planted the seeds, now it was time to see how much I could truly grow.
Since then, I’ve gone all in on Planted Wellness Co., turning a personal practice into a full-time mission: to cultivate the wellness of gardens and lives. Every plant we sell, every remedy we create, is a step toward that mission. And the response from our community? It’s been nothing short of blooming.
Right now, I’m in the middle of renovating a bus to become a literal mobile plant nursery – a rolling greenhouse that will bring native plants, medicinal herbs, and apothecary goods right into the heart of our community. It’s part of our commitment to making natural wellness more accessible, and honestly, it’s also just a really fun way to bring the joy of growing things to new places! I can’t wait to roll up, pop open the doors, and let people shop straight from the source.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not! Starting a mobile nursery is no joke, it’s a constant dance between nature, logistics, and hustle. One of the biggest early challenges was just figuring out how to move delicate plants without damaging them. There’s a real art to loading up a trailer or van with living things that don’t want to be jostled or sun-scorched. We’ve had more than a few lessons in what not to do, many carts broken, signs damaged, plant branches snapped.
Then there’s Mother Nature herself. Learning the growing rhythms of Georgia’s climate has been a full-blown education. You think you’ve got it figured out, then the seasons shift, or climate change throws in an unexpected drought or early frost. Growing from seed takes a staggering amount of time and attention, and it’s not just about planting and watering. It’s about syncing with nature’s calendar, watching for signs, and knowing when the exact right moment is to harvest, for apothecary use, that timing is everything. Too early or too late, and the plant may lose its potency.
Add in the physical labor, it’s truly a full-body, full-heart job. Very different than my previous desk jobs. From soil prep and propagation to processing and packaging, everything is done by hand and on a tight timeline. And because we’re committed to growing responsibly, there are no shortcuts. That means long days in the greenhouse, careful tending, and a whole lot of patience.
But even with all those challenges, there’s nothing more rewarding than seeing someone connect with a plant we nurtured from seed, knowing it’s going home with them to be part of their healing or their garden. It’s not a smooth road, but it’s a beautiful one. And every bump teaches us something new.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Planted Wellness Co. is a mobile plant nursery and apothecary rooted in the belief that natural wellness starts in our own backyards. We specialize in small-batch medicinal herbs, native Georgia plants, and handcrafted apothecary goods like teas, tinctures, and dried botanicals. Everything we offer is grown with intention and care, most of it started from seed and tended by hand, right here in our greenhouse in Marietta.
What sets us apart is that we’re not just selling plants, we’re cultivating wellness. Our mission is to “cultivate the wellness of gardens and lives,” and that means educating our community on the power of native horticulture, herbal medicine, and the importance of sustainable, local growing. It also means meeting people where they are, literally. As a mobile nursery, we pop up at markets and events around Metro Atlanta, bringing hard-to-find native plants and remedies straight to the people who need them.
We’re proud to be one of the only sources in the area where folks can get not just medicinal herbs, but also the knowledge about how to grow, harvest, and use them. Whether someone’s a seasoned herbalist or a curious beginner, we create an approachable space to learn, explore, and connect to their own path of natural healing.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the heart that goes into everything we do. From the earthy aesthetic to our educational content, there’s soul behind every step. We’re here to make natural wellness more accessible, joyful, and community-centered.
And exciting news: we’re currently renovating a vintage bus to become our new mobile shop, a rolling greenhouse that will allow us to expand access even further, bringing native plants and herbal goods to even more communities around Georgia. We’re just getting started, and I can’t wait for what’s next.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Growing up in Northern Michigan in general is the memory. It was the kind of childhood where we were always outside—barefoot, sun-soaked, and covered in dirt. We spent endless hours swimming in Lake Michigan, exploring the woods, and turning over logs to see what was living underneath. I vividly remember the wild joy of running through dandelion fields and (not so proudly) shoving dandelions up my nose because I just wanted to smell them better.
Looking back, it makes so much sense that I ended up creating a business rooted in nature. I think I’ve always had a heart that was connected to the earth—curious about plants, comforted by wild places, and drawn to the kind of beauty you can only find when you slow down and really see what’s growing around you.
