Exploring Life & Business with Jenny King of Barefoot Garden Design

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenny King.

Hi Jenny, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I knew for many years that my passion for gardening and instinct for visual art converged perfectly in the world of landscape design. But after working in the traditional landscaping trade, I observed this industry– which works so closely with nature– doing more harm than good. In an effort to do things differently, I founded Barefoot Garden Design in 2019 to pursue my passion of bringing eco-friendly landscapes to my community. My passion for the earth keeps me eager to learn more about our role as stewards of the ecosystems we live in. When not gardening, I love to experience nature through travel, hiking, caring for animals, and creating art.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I started out on my own planting small gardens for people who heard of me through word of mouth. But I realized soon that if I wanted to turn this into a business that I would need a lot of help. Though I enjoyed the actual gardening I was doing, it didn’t always make sense for me to be the one holding the shovel. Figuring out what and who I needed to help grow the business has been a journey.

We Are A Full Service Design-Build Company. This means we can see you from initial concepts and considerations, through design and installation. Our team of passionate, dedicated, and knowledgeable professionals are there for you every step of the way.

With a Focus on Eco-Friendly Designs. Our gardens usually consist of at least 75% native plants, or more if you’d prefer. We focus on designs that show interest in every season with pollinator friendly perennials and evergreens.

Our team has studied extensively in a variety of gardening traditions including permaculture, pollinator supporting, edible, English cottage, Mediterranean, Japanese Zen, and subtropical styles.

We strive to be leaders in the landscape industry by focusing on sustainable, ecologically regenerative practices to create inspiring and life changing spaces.
