Community Highlights: Meet Neveaughn Mcghee of Braidsbymya/eliteluxuryhaircare

Today we’d like to introduce you to Neveaughn Mcghee.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My name is Neveaughn McGhee, and my journey as a hairstylist began at just 12 years old. What started as doing hair for family and friends quickly expanded—I was even styling my school administrators at Crawford Long Middle School. At the time, I was charging just $50, but as word spread and I found myself doing 8 to 10 heads a day, I knew it was time to elevate.

I moved into a salon in downtown Atlanta, and my brand quickly grew into something much bigger. Over the years, I became a well-known stylist in the Atlanta area. In 2020, I expanded my business to include my own line of hair products, which did exceptionally well. Unfortunately, everything came to a halt when I lost my best friend. The grief deeply affected my motivation, and I took a year to process and heal.

During that time, I made the decision to refocus and dream even bigger. I enrolled in phlebotomy school and worked in the medical field for a while but realized my true calling remained in entrepreneurship. From there, I began building multiple streams of income—not only continuing as a stylist, but also earning my dealer’s license, emissions license, and certifications to open a daycare, inspired by my parents.

Through all the ups and downs, hair has always been my first love. My ultimate dream is to become a stylist for Tyler Perry Studios—bringing my creativity, passion, and years of experience to a platform that represents Black excellence and storytelling. I know my journey is only just beginning.

My name is Neveaughn McGhee, and I am the founder of a thriving beauty brand based in Atlanta, Georgia. I specialize in protective styles, specifically braids and weaves, and I’m known for combining speed, quality, and creativity in every style I create. I’ve been in the hair industry since the age of 12, and over the years I’ve built a strong reputation as a go-to stylist in the Atlanta area.

What truly sets me apart is my attention to detail, my ability to bring out each client’s confidence through their hair, and my deep understanding of both the art and structure of protective styling. I don’t just do hair—I create experiences that leave clients feeling beautiful, seen, and empowered.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud of how much I’ve grown—starting from doing hair at home, to moving into a salon downtown, to selling my own line of hair products, and expanding into multiple businesses, all while staying true to my passion. My brand is built on consistency, professionalism, and resilience. Even through personal loss and challenges, I never lost sight of my vision.

How do you think about happiness?
What makes me happy is seeing people feel confident and beautiful because of something I created with my own hands. When a client looks in the mirror and smiles—like really feels themselves—that’s the best feeling in the world. It reminds me why I started doing hair in the first place.
