Check Out Christina Jean-Gilles’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Jean-Gilles.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, my journey has taken me from the bustling streets of NYC to Georgia in 2012, Miami in 2018, and back to Georgia in 2022, where I currently reside. Throughout each chapter of my life, one thing has remained constant: my deep-rooted passion for helping others. whether volunteering at hospitals or tutoring in after-school programs, I’ve always found purpose in serving others. While living in Miami, I had the privilege of working with a nonprofit organization that provided housing for ex-offenders living with schizophrenia. That experience was both humbling and transformative. It opened my eyes to the complex needs of underserved populations and cemented my desire to make a meaningful, lasting impact. Later, I launched a rental business focused on providing housing for travel nurses. Supporting those on the frontlines of healthcare was incredibly rewarding, but I still felt called to do more. For years, I had dreamed of opening an independent living home, I just didn’t know where to begin. That changed when I discovered a woman online who owned multiple independent living homes for veterans. Her mission resonated deeply with me. I purchased her training replay, joined her Facebook group, and immersed myself in learning everything I could about the industry. From there, I began building relationships with local shelters, the VA, hospitals, and community organizations. Since then, this journey has unfolded in incredible and inspiring ways. I’m now more committed than ever to creating safe, supportive spaces for those who need it most, and making a real difference, one life at a time.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My greatest obstacle was losing my sister. I don’t think I’ve ever felt a pain so deep. Life became incredibly difficult after she passed. Although I found some peace in knowing she was no longer suffering, I still miss her presence, her guidance, her support, and simply having her here. She was the person I turned to for everything. Accepting life without her has been one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do. Over time, I realized I didn’t want to keep cycling in and out of depression. I didn’t want to keep pushing grief away, I wanted to let it teach me. Grief helped me learn more about myself, about healing, and about purpose. Out of that journey came something beautiful in her honor: The Gardens at Fay. Grief changes you. It heightens your emotions and shifts your perspective. But that season taught me something I’ll never forget: the importance of slowing down and turning to God. We must always keep God first, he desires relationship with us, and He will carry us through the hardest seasons. In the pursuit of success, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed, but when you trust him and keep him at the center, there’s no obstacle too great to overcome. Putting God first in my life gave me a renewed sense of direction. After much prayer and reflection, He placed a vision on my heart, to open an independent living home/transitional housing, and to name it in honor of my sister. Helping others through this work brings me so much peace, and in many ways, it’s been part of my own healing journey. Serving others not only keeps her memory alive but also allows me to walk in my purpose with compassion and faith.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I provide safe, stable housing for individuals facing financial hardship, including veterans and ex-offenders, offering them a supportive environment where they can rebuild their lives. My program serves as a stepping stone, connecting residents with vital resources such as case management, employment assistance, and community support services. The goal is to empower each individual to regain independence, achieve stability, and ultimately flourish in their personal and professional lives.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My advice to anyone starting out in this industry is to first discover your why and identify your niche. Your why is your purpose and it should be rooted in a genuine desire to make a positive impact. Knowing your why gives you clarity and motivation, especially when challenges arise. Equally important is understanding your niche. Who do you want to serve? Is it veterans, the homeless, men, women, or teens? Seniors? Once you know both your purpose and your audience, everything else becomes so much clearer, and your efforts become more focused and effective. Lastly, “Always remain teachable, there’s something to learn from everyone. The moment we believe we know it all is the moment we stop growing.
