Cheryl Tibbs shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Cheryl, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: Are you walking a path—or wandering?
I’m a bit of both. I walk a path with a clear destination in mind, but I give myself room to wander into new ideas. That balance is what allows me to innovate and structure with freedom.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Cheryl Tibbs, President of Commercial Capital Connect and Chief Strategist at AI Marvels. I help businesses access the capital they need while also showing entrepreneurs how to leverage AI to scale smarter. What makes my journey unique is that I’ve lived both sides, the hustle of brokering deals and now the innovation of building systems that change how our industry works. At the heart of it all, I’m passionate about opening doors, creating opportunities, and showing what’s possible when finance and technology meet.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
The part of me that I’ve had to release is trying to be everything for everyone, especially helping people who don’t want to help themselves. For a long time, I carried that weight, thinking I could pull everyone forward. But I’ve learned that real impact comes from focusing my energy where it can actually create change. Letting that go has freed me to serve more deeply and build with people who are ready to build with me.
What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
A defining wound for me has been pouring myself into people and situations that didn’t pour back. For years, I thought my value came from being the fixer, the one holding it all together. That took a toll. Healing has come with realizing I don’t have to carry what isn’t mine. I can love, support, and show up without depleting myself. I wouldn’t say the healing is finished, but I’m no longer bleeding from it. Now I lead from a place of strength and boundaries.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes, the public version of me is the real me, but it’s not the whole me. What people see is the leader, strategist, and builder, and that’s true. But there are also quieter sides; Cheryl the wife, the mother, the minister, the thinker, that don’t always make the spotlight. I don’t believe in putting on a mask, but I do believe in protecting some parts of myself so they can stay sacred. So what you see is real, it’s just not all of me.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I’m doing what I was born to do. “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you”, says the Lord! That verse has carried me. My path hasn’t always been easy, but it’s been purposeful. I’m not just following instructions or doing what people expect; I’m living out the assignment that was placed on my life long before I even understood it. That’s why I show up with conviction because I know I’m walking in something that was already written for me.
