Vanessa, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Just now actually! Having the team reach out for another interview – 7 years later. It made me review my first interview. I remember saying I wanted to have a business of my own one day. Here I am a couple years later, freshly launching my own small business. Time flies- it made me feel proud that I never gave up on my dream.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m a Licensed Cosmetologist specializing in eyebrows at the moment. Belleza x Vanessa offers brow laminations as well as brow waxes. I take my time in really analyzing my client’s brows, facial features, eye placement and brow growth to customize and give them the perfect eyebrow shape for them.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My parents could clearly see myself and my potential before I ever could. I grew up being told I could do anything I put my mind to. From an early age I knew I wanted to do something in the Beauty Industry. My parents have always supported and encouraged me to go for it and have my own business.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Don’t be scared, you’re capable of achieving anything you set your mind to. I heard it from my parents many times growing up, however I don’t think I fully believed it. There was a lot of doubt and fear! If I could hug my younger self and let her know she’d eventually be living so many dreams she once had and that everything would be okay- that would be great.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Relationships! Whether it’s family, friendships, or clients- the relationships I have with those around me are extremely important to me. I like to make sure everyone feels valued. I also like to add value in any way I can.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I believe I’m doing what I was born to do. From a very young age I was in love with anything Beauty related. Hair, nails, skin care, makeup- you name it. I did have people in my life try to steer me away from that and go a different direction, however my heart was always set on the Beauty industry.
