Community Highlights: Meet Jayla Roxx of WestCar Media

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jayla Roxx.

Hi Jayla, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
First and foremost, thank you so much for thinking of me in this season! It’s truly an honor to come full circle with the Voyage team, the same platform that first helped share my story years ago. Growing up in Atlanta, I fell in love with storytelling early on, whether it was teaching my cousins the newest dance routine or learning the entire movie of The Wiz (I auditioned for the Scarecrow and “You Can’t Win” still lives rent free in my head). I still get small flashbacks to those first creative moments that sparked so much joy and they stay with me serving as my personal Yellow Brick Road guiding me forward on the path I walk today. (Boy, has it been a ride)

The arts have always been my outlet to make sense of the world (or at least I thought I’d try) and be open to it making sense of me, too. Growing up, I loved to produce little projects with friends for fun (and popularity at school), never realizing those experiences would lead to an ever evolving career that connects my love for entertainment so closely to my identity and my purpose.

Now, looking back, it’s incredible to see how those early sparks in Atlanta grew into producing television and now launching my own media company. The city truly shaped my voice and my passion for storytelling, and this moment feels like a warm hug, embracing me and reminding me that my journey is only just beginning. (it feels like I’ve lived 1000 lives, but here we are)

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Life is never a smooth road but I’ve come to believe that every pothole, every speed bump serves a purpose. It’s definitelt character building for sure. Sometimes it tests my patience, but it’s always my reminder of truly getting out of this life what I want. I remember the first time I heard “no” in this business (I can laugh about this now) and it hit me harder than I expected. That rejection planted a lot of questions in my head, “Am I good enough? Do they even see me? Does what I bring even matter?”

During those formative years. I battled with those thoughts. Honestly, I still do sometimes. But what I’ve learned is that “the detours are just as valuable as the destinations”. Every closed door has redirected me toward something better, something meant for me (Even when it feels like I’m stuck AF). It’s like having a GPS that keeps saying, “recalculating,” but somehow you still end up exactly where you’re supposed to be.

The way I walk through life now is about being present and recognizing what’s working, what’s not, but also having the courage to pivot when life says, “Turn left.” The struggles shaped me into someone who not only chases opportunity but also understands the beauty of rerouting when the map doesn’t go as planned.

We’ve been impressed with WestCar Media , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
WestCar Media is my bab (a big one , too). it’s the culmination of every mistake I’ve made, every lesson I’ve learned (especially in this business) ,every redirection, and every moment I wished someone had believed in me a little more. I created it to honor that younger version of myself who loved entertainment but didn’t always feel supported or uplifted in it. For me, WestCar Media isn’t just a company; it’s a promise.. that creativity deserves care, that stories deserve strategy, and that visibility changes lives.

We’re a full-service publicity and media brand focused on helping creators, entrepreneurs, and entertainers elevate their voices through storytelling, branding, and PR. What makes this different is our heart we don’t just push out press; we make sure we nurture purpose. I’ve always made the vow to specialize in showcasing underappreciated talent, especially those from marginalized communities, while also trying to build sustainable visibility in a system that often overlooks them.

My background in reality television shaped a lot of how I approach the work. Reality TV taught me that people connect most deeply when they see themselves in someone else’s story. That connection is what fuels every project, not just my own, but the work of other brilliant, beautiful creatives who deserve the spotlight, too.

My background in reality television has deeply influenced how I approach every part of my work. Being part of that world taught me something powerful — people don’t just connect to what they see, they connect to who they see themselves in. That human element, that emotional thread, is what keeps audiences invested.

That’s exactly what inspired my show, “Reality Redefined”, on iHeartRadio. We’ve had incredible conversations with people like Big Brother 25 winner Jag Bains and Emmy-nominated casting director Jazzy Collins, CSA,incredible voices who understand both the craft and the humanity behind the screen. This upcoming season, we’re continuing to expand that dialogue, going even deeper into how creatives shape culture through their work.

I’m most proud that WestCar Media can stand as a symbol of inclusion and forward-thinking media. We’re ushering in what I like to call “The Visibility Era” (I love a good ERA!). It’s a time where authenticity isn’t just accepted, it’s celebrated. I really believe that we build legacies through visibility.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Happiness has changed a lot for me over the years. I’m in my 30’s now and I used to think it lived in achievements, things, or moments that proved I had “made it.” (Chile, then I grew up). But now, I’ve completely de-centered material things and temporary highs. Real joy, for me, is in what’s right in front of me, the people I love, my amazing friends, and my dog, Mischa, who reminds me every day to slow down and just exist. (and give her treats).

I’ve learned that happiness isn’t something I have to chase or even have to, it’s something I can choose, right now. I deserve to be happy in this exact moment, without waiting for the next big thing to justify it. Because if I keep waiting for happiness to arrive someday, I’ll never actually recognize it when it’s already here.
