Dawn Duchess shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Dawn , really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
First 90 mins starts off almost the same; I try to get some type of exercise in, I do a little reading, some studying, & I try to get in about 40 oz of water to be hydrated.
As I’ve gotten older, I realized the mornings usually depict how the rest of the day will go.
Even if you’re tired or groggy, pushing through those first couple hours usually just help better
manage the rest of the day! So I like to get up early & jumpstart my mind.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m a writer first. Since a kid I’ve always got lost in time writing short stories & things like that.
I started writing poetry & raps way later. I upload my music online off & on
but lately I’ve been wanting to reach a bigger audience.
I just feel like so much is going on in the world that today’s society is hiding under the rug.
My main reason for starting my YouTube channel back up, is to encourage others that
feel fed up. Music has always been a safe place for me to relieve stress or thoughts
that don’t get answered.
Everyone should have a place to escape from the stress of life.
That’s what music is to me; not about politics or flexing.
Just fun creating!
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
A loving kind spirit…. I’m still that same way, just hide it behind a wall.
The music is a place where I feel safe to speak my peace.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Life is a mission & you have a purpose. Explore your imagination without filtering your emotions for others; How you feel IS important!
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Noooo, I’ve always felts the pressure of having to present a certain way so people wouldn’t judge.
I learned later that people will judge regardless!
The public version of me is more tame.
I’m still learning that balance of being 100% authentic but at the same time appropriate lol
i can be very, very rebellious …or outspoken at times &
I understand how that can be disruptive to a structure.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
Stop trying to convince others!
As soon as I learn something I always spend alot of
energy talking about what I’ve learned instead of putting
it into practice.
The best way to influence is by doing.
So I would definitely stop trying to
drag others down this magical brick road of life I found;
I’d probably
have more courage to travel it alone, IF i really knew I only had
10 years left.
