Conversations with Antion Cryer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Antion Cryer.

Hi Antion, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
This journey has been a pretty wild one to say the least. 5 years ago, I got out the military and pursued a DJ/Producer dream I had as a child. I started in FnB to get funds up so I could travel to different events until I started receiving VA disability and that is when I started betting on myself.
The journey was on halt for a while. I ended up in a very awkward situation where i was stranded in a city. I was trying to get home from going to see what the west coast had to offer. I was heading down I20 towards Augusta so i could go back home and the van i was driving ran out of gas. I pulled over on the side of the road because it was late and in the morning i was going to try to find some way to get home. I was woken up by a police officer and told him the situation. The officer took me to a gas station and i asked why was i there and he turned his lights on and drove off. For the next two weeks i started working at a little BBQ place called Fire It Up to make some money to eventually get a taxi. Also, my phone was off at this time, so I have no idea what’s going on as far as the outside world. Which eventually threw me into a psychosis. My cousin came and got me and when i saw everything about a BOLO out it made my psychosis worse. I had just got out of the army so I thought I was AWOL and something happened.
I start to feel reality come back and when this happens, I go to DJ a party and end up in a deeper psychosis. When I mentally come to I realize I’m in another person’s car and got rear ended. Still with no recollection of where i am but I’m following what looks like my destination. About a week after i went to jail for Theft by Taking. I am released on first offenders act but have had a felony on my record while still pushing the narrative of a younger me’s dream. I continued DJing and assisted with a bunch of ATL projects after I got out of jail called “Emerald Summers Presents”. While working with them i was blessed with three beautiful boys. My at home life, my personal life, and my professional life started to become hectic and I almost left music because the mother of my kids wasn’t doing much of her part. One day when i came home from work the boys were all doing different things musically.
I had to make the hardest decision I have ever made and gave the boys to their mother so i can build the biggest stage i can for them. At first it was for me, now it’s for them.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Yes and no, I will be the first to say if no one hasn’t. There isn’t anything harder than becoming musically successful because if you are doing it right. You have to constantly outdo what you deemed as a perfect produce. That’s only as far as the producer aspect. I’m blessed and fortunate enough to have had a chance to work with some amazing teams like Bass Music Family, Stiltz Entertainment, Moondaze and the patio team from Believe Music Hall.
As a DJ, my advice is someone will say no but someone will also say yes.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a multi genre artist who ranges from melodic, to dubstep, to riddim, to rock music. I want to reach and touch as many genres as I can.
I feel I’m just a different type of act. I don’t do it for a reaction from the crowd i have fun at every set because I let my inner child out.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Your haters are your biggest fans
