Today we’d like to introduce you to Deja Coleman.
Hi Deja , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, I spent part of my childhood in Atlanta after Hurricane Katrina and eventually returned to attend Georgia State University, where I earned my degree in Business Administration. I always knew I wanted to work in fashion, which led me to spend several years in retail with brands like Guess, Armani Exchange and Kate Spade.
After graduating, I joined Louis Vuitton’s operations team for two years before transitioning into a more corporate role (at a different company) in sales and logistics. Although successful, I quickly realized I was unfulfilled and began pursuing my creative passions. This journey led me to modeling, signing with Forward Agency in Atlanta, and diving deeper into dance and music.
As my creativity expanded, I began working events as a brand ambassador for major brands such as Patrón, D’Ussé, Rémy Martin, L’Oréal, and Nike. In May 2024, I officially left the corporate world to fully embrace my passions. Since then, I’ve modeled for Mielle, appeared on the front cover of Atlanta Style Weddings Magazine, and collaborated with brands like Juicy Couture and Mayvenn Hair.
In August 2025, I released my debut single “Six Facts” and joined the Atlanta Storm basketball team as a dancer. Today, I’m a full-time model, brand ambassador, dancer, and music artist, continuing to build a career that blends creativity, confidence, and authenticity.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Like most creative journeys, mine has had its share of detours and growing pains. Every day brings new challenges, especially when you choose to go against what you were taught to do and follow your own path.
When I left my corporate job, I walked away from the financial stability I was used to. There were moments when I had to pick up part-time jobs, work extra events, and book more shoots just to make it. Also, not everyone around me understood what I was going through mentally either. People often project their own fears or limitations onto you, they might mean well, but it can be both helpful and hurtful. At the end of the day, it’s you who has to keep believing in yourself and pushing forward.
I remember one day sitting in my kitchen, rent due the next morning, and I didn’t even have half the money to pay it. Out of nowhere, a modeling check hit my account that wasn’t supposed to come in for another month. That moment reminded me that when you have faith and stay consistent, things will always work out.
There were also times of doubt, moments where I questioned if I made the right decision, or if I was crazy for walking away from a “safe” career. But every struggle taught me something, how to trust my timing, build confidence in my vision, and redefine what success truly means to me.
It’s definitely worth it though! The feeling I get when I’m modeling, dancing, or creating new music is indescribable, it’s like a high that reminds me I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be. What keeps me going is my mindset and my support system. My parents are my biggest supporters and constantly encourage me to keep going. Surrounding myself with other creatives who are pursing their dreams keeps me motivated too.
At the end of the day, I love what I do. I know God put me on this Earth for a reason, to be the best version of myself and inspire others to do the same. Every day, I’m working toward that purpose.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a full-time model, brand ambassador, dancer, and music artist. Everything I do centers around self-expression, confidence, and inspiring others to live boldly and authentically.
My work allows me to merge all the things I love, fashion, movement, and music into one vision. Whether I’m in front of the camera, or creating something new, my goal is always to make people feel something. I want my work to reflect freedom, passion, and the beauty of evolving into your higher self.
What I’m most proud of is that I’ve built my career from the ground up through faith, consistency, and purpose. I took a leap from the corporate world to pursue my passions full-time, and every opportunity since has been a reflection of trusting that decision.
What sets me apart is my ability to reinvent myself and blend creativity with intention. I move with purpose, and I stay true to who I am, even when the road gets challenging. My journey is about growth, alignment, and creating a life that feels as good as it looks.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was definitely a girly girl, but I also loved being active. I was always involved in something cheerleading, dancing, running track, cross country, and even doing pageants at a young age. I’ve always loved music too; it was my outlet, a way for me to escape and express myself no matter what was going on around me.
I’m an only child, so family has always been really important to me. I spent most of my childhood with my cousins, who are also creatives now. We were always coming up with something, talent shows, dances, storylines, anything that allowed us to use our imagination and keep busy.
Personality-wise, I was quiet and shy around people who didn’t really know me, but once you got to know me, I was definitely talkative, funny, and maybe even a little bossy. I think that mix of being observant but expressive shaped who I am today, someone who loves to create, perform, and connect with others through art and energy.
