Meet Kim Piroli of Piroli Design

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Piroli.

Hi Kim, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
From as early as I can remember, I was very observant of my surroundings — the colors, the furniture, the way spaces were arranged. Even as a child, I’d change the colors in my room or move pieces around to experiment with different layouts and color combinations.  My father was an architect, so I grew up surrounded by blueprints and sketches – I absorbed it all without realizing it at the time. Creativity and design became part of who I am.

My professional journey didn’t begin in interiors, though. I started my career as a NICU nurse, caring for the most fragile of newborns. It was intense and deeply meaningful work that required compassion, patience, and precision — qualities that still shape how I approach every design project today. Later, I earned my MBA and worked with startups, which gave me a strong business foundation and the structure I needed to eventually launch something of my own.

Friends and colleagues had been encouraging me for years to follow my creative instincts, and when I finally did, Piroli Design was born. What started as a passion has grown into a full-service luxury residential and commercial design studio serving clients throughout Atlanta and beyond. I’m incredibly grateful for the clients who trust me with their homes and workplaces – and who, over time, often become dear friends.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The design industry has faced its share of challenges in recent years, beginning with the impact of COVID on the global supply chain.  Delays, material shortages, freight challenges, and shifting costs have become part of the everyday reality of our industry.  Our design process requires flexibility, planning and especially problem solving.

Having a trusted network of skilled tradespeople is key to delivering a beautiful project. I’m very particular about the craftsmen and artisans I work with – my team has been carefully curated over time – and their reliability, skill, and pride in what they do are truly the backbone of my business.  When you have the right team in place, you can overcome nearly any challenge and still deliver the level of quality I expect, and my clients deserve.

One of the biggest challenges in building a design business is in maintaining a work-life balance.  When you love what you do, it’s easy for it to take over. Inspiration doesn’t keep office hours and learning to create boundaries while still delivering the level of service and attention my clients expect has been important.

I’ve also learned that trust from your clients is everything and needs to be built and understood from the outset. The best projects happen when a client believes in your vision and allows you to carry it through fully.  That partnership is what turns a house into a home and brings the design fully to life.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
At Piroli Design, we create refined, livable interiors that balance beauty, function, and comfort. Our work spans luxury residences and chic boutique commercial spaces – each designed to feel elevated, cohesive, and very personal to our clients. I believe great design should simplify life while surrounding you with beauty.  Every detail matters – from the way a space flows to the finishes and architectural details. My process is rooted in listening: understanding how clients live, what inspires them, and what feels like “home”. From there we curate every element with care incorporating custom furnishings and bespoke details that make the space one of a kind.

We are deeply involved in every stage of the design and construction process – from reimagining existing homes to guiding full-scale renovations and new builds. Each project begins with space planning and a clear design vision. We utilize drawings and 3D renderings to help clients visualize the flow and character of their new space. Whether collaborating with an architect or providing direction ourselves, we coordinate every element with the build team to ensure the design intent is carried through.

We also specialize in custom kitchen and bath design blending function and artistry. Our kitchens are as practical as they are beautiful, and baths are treated as retreats. Every space is designed to work effortlessly and feel elevated, with finishes and materials that reflect our clients’ individuality and sense of style.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
Atlanta is growing so quickly, and it’s been amazing to watch how much the city has evolved.  The restaurant scene has become a blend of farm-to-table alongside an incredible mix of international and ethnic cuisines that reflect the diversity of the city. You can truly find anything your heart desires – the culinary scene here has it all.

Atlanta has become the shopping mecca of the Southeast.  Whether it’s luxury fashion, curated boutiques, or design sources, people come from all over for the experience.  There is still a special blend of Southern charm here mixed amongst the diverse cultural offerings.  As a designer, I love the proximity to ADAC with inspiring showrooms and trade sources that make it possible to create beautifully curated interiors. There are also design pockets throughout the city including Westside and Buckhead that offer endless inspiration. It’s one of the many reasons Atlanta is the perfect city for the design world.

What I dislike about Atlanta is probably everyone’s number one complaint – the traffic. It can be quite challenging most days. Getting across town can test your patience – planning your day around the traffic when possible is a must.
