Inspiring Conversations with Heather Coy of Fairytales & Friends

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Coy.

Hi Heather, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always had a passion for art and performing. Ever since I was little, I’ve loved creating, imagining, and finding ways to bring stories to life. Whether it was through drawing, painting, or being on stage, I was always chasing that feeling of creativity and connection.

In 2014, I had the chance to combine those passions in a way I never expected. I stepped into costume for a little girl’s birthday party, and the look on her face was pure magic. That moment stayed with me and reminded me how powerful imagination can be and how something so simple can make such a lasting impact.

That is really how Fairytales & Friends started. What began as something small and creative on the side quickly grew into something so much bigger. It gave me a way to share my love for art, performing, and storytelling with families all across Middle Georgia. Over the years, I’ve learned so much about running a business, leading a team, and creating experiences that people truly remember. It has been such an incredible journey, and I still get that same feeling of excitement every time I see a child’s face light up.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has definitely taken a lot of hard work to get here. I wouldn’t call it a struggle, but it has been a real balancing act at times. The biggest challenge has been managing the demands of a growing business while also being a full-time high school art teacher. Both require so much creativity, energy, and heart, and I care deeply about doing both well.

I’ve always wanted every single moment to feel magical, even those last-minute bookings or unexpected changes. That is just part of who I am. But in that effort, I have definitely had moments where I have worn myself a little too thin. Over time, I have learned how important it is to lean on my team and trust that the magic still happens even when I am not the one holding every piece together.

It has been a lot of work, but it has also been incredibly rewarding. Every event, every smile, and every child who believes in the moment reminds me exactly why it is all worth it.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Fairytales & Friends is a character entertainment company based in Middle Georgia. We specialize in creating unforgettable, family-friendly experiences through live character appearances and events. Our cast brings over 80 different characters to life, from beloved fairytale favorites and superheroes to original creations and seasonal personalities, all designed to spark joy and imagination.

What truly sets us apart is the level of care and quality that goes into every detail. From custom-designed costumes and styled wigs to performer training and storytelling, we focus on creating moments that feel real and full of heart. We want every guest to feel like they have stepped into a storybook and that the character they are meeting is genuinely happy to see them.

We have become the leader in character entertainment across Middle Georgia through consistency, creativity, and an incredible team. Many of our performers are educators, artists, and community leaders who know how to connect with children in a meaningful way. Whether it is a birthday party, festival, school event, or one of our signature productions like Boo Bash, our goal is always the same: to create magic that families remember.

I am most proud of the heart behind our name. Fairytales & Friends has always been about more than characters. It is about community, creativity, and kindness. We believe in giving back through local partnerships, charity events, and free meet-and-greets that bring joy to families who might not otherwise have access to these experiences.

At the end of the day, we pour genuine love into every detail. When you invite Fairytales & Friends to an event, you are not just booking a character. You are inviting a team that believes in the power of imagination, connection, and joy.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
What surprises most people is that I rarely play the characters anymore. For a long time, you would see my face as all sorts of different characters, but these days it’s a rare occasion. I’ve stepped almost fully into the behind-the-scenes role and have truly passed the crown to my incredible performers.

Even though I’m not the one in character as often, I’m still very much involved with every single booking, party, and event that happens. I work closely with our clients, our managers, and our cast to make sure every detail is handled and that each experience feels magical. I may not always be the one in costume anymore, but I’m always right there making sure everything behind the curtain runs smoothly.

I still enjoy performing and will always step in when needed, but as we’ve grown, I’ve found so much joy in watching the magic unfold from the outside. There’s something incredibly special about seeing our cast bring these characters to life and knowing I helped make that moment possible. I like to think of myself as a proud fairy godmother now — guiding, supporting, and cheering on my team as they continue to make the magic happen.
