Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Kopanski.
Hi Michael, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my career building production homes for Fortune 500 builders in the Atlanta area. In 2024, I felt like it was time to take the next step and pursue custom home building. I took a leap and left Toll Brothers after about three years to work for a general contractor in Milton, where I gained hands-on experience building high-end custom homes.
After nearly a year with that company, my wife and I welcomed our son in April. Just a week later, the owner made the decision to stop paying me and attempted to renegotiate our agreement. It was an incredibly challenging moment — but it also pushed me to bet on myself. That’s when I founded Kalos Construction Group, a custom home and remodeling company built on integrity, craftsmanship, and doing things the right way.
Our first two homes are currently under construction in Alpharetta and Canton. Designed and developed by Z-Built, these European-country–inspired homes will be the epitome of luxury, blending timeless architecture with thoughtful, modern livability. They’re a reflection of the standard we aim to set with every project: refined design, meticulous execution, and a client experience rooted in trust.
Launching Kalos has been both humbling and exciting, and these first projects mark the beginning of what I hope becomes a long legacy of building homes that stand out for their quality, beauty, and intention.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Working for that GC was a huge learning experience, but running my own company has been an entirely new challenge. I’m no longer just responsible for building homes — I’m responsible for running a business and ensuring its success. Balancing that with having a six-month-old at home definitely adds another layer to the struggle, but my faith, friends, and family keep me grounded and focused on what truly matters.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
After my son was born in April, life took an unexpected turn — the builder I was working for stopped paying me a week after he arrived. That challenge became the catalyst for something greater: the start of Kalos Construction Group.
The experience I’ve gained working across the spectrum — from production building to fully custom homes — allows me to approach luxury home construction with both efficiency and a strong focus on client experience.
Our philosophy, Beauty Built Better, guides everything we do. It’s about doing things the right way, not the easy way. We emphasize thoughtful design, clear communication, and meticulous craftsmanship to ensure the process is just as beautiful as the finished product.
“Kalos” is a Greek ideal that unites physical beauty with inner goodness — and that’s the standard we hold ourselves to in every home we build and every relationship we form.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
My dad instilled the importance of networking early on. He’s been a banker his entire life, and back in college, he’d set up meetings for me with his clients — often CEOs or CFOs — while I was just a kid trying to figure things out. Those experiences taught me that relationships are everything.
I’ve always believed it’s not just what you know, but who you know — and more importantly, how you show up in those relationships. I try to approach every conversation with intention and authenticity, without expecting anything in return. The goal is to connect, to listen, and to add value where you can. You never know where one conversation might lead, and often the best opportunities come from simply being genuine and consistent over time.
