Life & Work with Oluwabukola Ogunyemi of Connecticut

Today we’d like to introduce you to Oluwabukola Ogunyemi.

Hi Oluwabukola, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey actually started in Ukraine, where I was in undergrad medical school. Even then, I loved fashion, and I started a blog when I realized people were reaching out to ask about my looks and style because I couldn’t respond to everyone individually.

After finishing my undergrad, I went back to Nigeria, my home country, and continued creating content on the side while practicing as a medical doctor. Combining both wasn’t always easy, but I’ve always felt that my love for fashion and my medical career actually go hand in hand. Caring for people and helping them get back to health is deeply important to me, and my flair for fashion is just another way I express creativity and positivity in life.

I later moved to the U.S. for grad school, where I earned a Master’s in Public Health, and now I work a 9-to-5. My passion for content creation has never been a distraction. Today, I focus on beauty, fashion, lifestyle, and travel content. Traveling solo as a Black woman and experiencing other cultures has been incredible, and it allows me to show that you can truly have the best of both worlds. I’ve been creating content for over 10 years, and it’s been an amazing journey of balancing my professional life with my creative passions.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been a completely smooth road, but I’m really thankful for the journey. One of the biggest challenges has been relocation and adjusting to new cultures. I’ve lived across three continents, so learning to adapt while trying to grow a new audience each time has been a lot.

Another challenge has been access to creatives and resources. Back home, I had more ready access to photographers, hairstylists, and videographers, but here finding the right team can be harder and more expensive.

Being a Black creator comes with its own hurdles too. Opportunities don’t always come as easily, and sometimes you have to work twice as hard to get noticed.

Balancing content creation with a demanding career could have been overwhelming, but I’ve learned to hack it and actually feel like I’m doing a great job at both. Building an audience from scratch repeatedly and navigating algorithm and platform challenges have also tested my patience, but they’ve taught me persistence, creativity, and resilience.

Looking back, I realize these struggles have shaped me and made this journey even more rewarding.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’d say my work is really a mix of creativity and purpose. On the creative side, I focus on beauty, fashion, lifestyle and travel content. I love showing people how to express themselves through style and beauty, and I’m known for curating looks, sharing personal style tips and creating content that inspires women to embrace confidence and live fully. Traveling solo as a Black woman has also allowed me to bring unique perspectives and experiences into my content, which I am really proud of.

At the same time, I am a medical doctor and I work a nine to five in public health, which keeps me grounded and reminds me of the importance of impact and care in the real world. What sets me apart is how I am able to balance both worlds, my professional life and my creative passions, without compromising either. I bring intention and authenticity into everything I do, whether I am caring for people, sharing style inspiration or exploring new cultures.

I am most proud of showing that you can pursue multiple passions and truly live the best of both worlds. That perspective is what I try to bring into all my work and I think it resonates with people because it is genuine and relatable.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something surprising about me is that even though I create a lot of content and share so much online, I’m actually pretty reserved in real life. I can also be a little strict with myself and my routines, and I’m such a homebody. People might expect me to be outgoing all the time because of what they see online, but I really value my downtime and personal space.
