Today we’d like to introduce you to Sophia Minx.
Hi Sophia , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Hey my name is Sophia Minx.
When I was younger I idolized Tyra Banks, Naomi and Diana Ross. I dreamed to be a runway model, however, knowing my height I believed my chances slim.
Support in my community for this endeavor didn’t make sense at the time. It wasn’t a job that would feed and house me.
So a decade went by before I would be exposed to the opportunity of modeling. I separated from my partner at the time. Which meant a move from my home of 10 years Atlanta, Georgia to my home of childhood where I was born, Augusta Georgia.
It meant I would later run into characters that led me to begin the dreams I never thought possible. My singing career, hairstylist career, and modeling career would be started with Lyft and a question I was courageous enough to ask.
Through a one time meeting with an engineer to singing at a mayor ball. Where I would meet a very talented designer who also was being honored that night by Augusta for their really captivating pieces.
That night I was invited to an art exhibit of this designer. Where I met a local renowned Augusta photographer.
We began shooting and coming up with extremely creative projects.
They introduced me to many photographers and designers. I also was the model for a photography class. They introduced me to friends in Augusta that were in the fashion scene.
Local designers who were throwing a runway show and ironically the same designer I first met at the mayor ball also was having a fashion show.
One of the designers became great friends so we worked together for 2 shows. I began casting and sharing my creative directed projects with social media. Traveling allowed me to start getting noticed for my potential as a model.
I am currently unsigned and unmanaged. Seeking mentorship and relationships that will foster growth into the field of runway and commercial print work.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road. Battling the insecurities that I built from leaving a previous relationship after 10 years and the fragile state of my familial relationship with my mother.
I had to start over and I suffered from feelings of ageism while moving from not working to balancing work and homeschooling my 2 daughters.
Defeat, insecurity, finances and no support from any family made the road difficult
Networking and meeting others in the field I wanted to be in ultimately helped me to battle these daily struggles.
We’ve been impressed with Pristine Cleaning Co., but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
When I moved back to my hometown I had to help my mother organize, reduce the hoarding, repairs and staging.
All of my family regarded me to be excelling in cleaning and organizing spaces.
When I go to look at a salon to start doing hair because that also is something I went to intern and studied for. The owner was looking for someone to upstart and manage his Airbnb.
I got hired that day. After reviewing the cleaning I offered to clean the property as well.
Pristine Cleaning Co. is born. Fast forward 2 years the company specializes in eviction cleans, construction cleaning, hosting and cleaning Airbnbs, housekeeping and commercial space cleaning.
Our attention to detail, sanitation and caring is a specialty. We also are an affordable , fast and efficient cleaning team.
We are black owned and Hispanic owned. We currently employ people that need work that goes outside of normal work hours and helps support those in the community that wouldn’t work due to transportation.
I’m most proud of how me, my clients and my team are a community. Not only do I wish cleanliness for the property but I also build strong relationships with those we work with. We are a good honest and hardworking company.
