We’re looking forward to introducing you to Skyler Reed. Check out our conversation below.
Good morning Skyler, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Songwriting! I truly enjoy sitting at my piano and coming up with a song, I typically play around a bit and find the chord progression that fits my mood or the topic I want to write about. Then, I get lost in the words, rhymes, and coming up with the perfect melody.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am an R&B/Soul artist and vocal coach based in Atlanta, GA. I own a small business, Skyler’s Music Studio, which offers private music lessons, workshops, and events. I have been a music creator for a decade, and enjoy writing and recording. I also gig around the city quite often, which is very fulfilling,
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
I made someone cry in the audience! I realized the power of my voice and music during my first recital at age 12. I sang When You Believe from The Prince of Egypt.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Before creating my last album, Boomerang, I was uninspired. I hadn’t written a song in almost a year, which was unlike me. I was adjusting to change and busy with life. I also wasn’t ready to face the things I knew only songwriting would heal. I could have decided to not pick up my pen again, but I’m glad I did.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Having a game plan for whatever I’m trying to accomplish at the moment.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
They would miss my personality. They could learn to sing from anyone, but they come back because I have a way of connecting with people. I’m humble, I listen, and I am light hearted. I imagine they experience stress free lessons and get a few laughs.
