Izzy Marie of Sandy Springs/Dunwoody on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Izzy Marie. Check out our conversation below.

Izzy, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Honestly, I lose track of time when I’m coloring or watching cartoons. It might sound simple or childlike but it really helps me unwind and feel grounded—it takes me back in a good way. Makes me think of the good ol days!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Izzy Marie, owner of IzzyTaughtMe—and if you know, you know.

I like to call myself the plug because when it comes to fashion, media, content, networking, or anything creative, I’m the one people tap in with.

I started out in my aunt’s attic, grinding, experimenting, teaching myself everything from styling to blogging to creative directing—even making music if the vibe calls for it.

Every lane sharpened my eye and built the brand I have today. Now, photography is where I lock in the most.

I got my first big break shooting for celebrity DJs and interning with major PRs/brands and that opened up a whole world—artists, events, behind-the-scenes access, the whole culture. I’m still tapped in with that network, creating visuals that hit and moments that last

IzzyTaughtMe isn’t just a name—it’s the blueprint. Creativity, hustle, and connection. That’s what I do!

Currently, I’m taking some time to unplug and actually relax. I’ve been going nonstop since 2012, so this break is long overdue.”

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
Definitely my mom. She had me young, and I watched her grind—working, studying, starting over in new states, making something out of nothing. If you’ve ever watched a single mom hustle, you know exactly the kind of work ethic she taught me.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Baby, be unapologetically YOU. You are that girl—God stamped that on you before you even knew your own power. Stop shrinking, stop doubting, and stop letting the world make you question what He already confirmed.

Everybody’s gonna have an opinion, but none of them matter when God already wrote the story. So hold your head high, step into your light, and do you boldly, loudly, and without second-guessing. Girl… you were destined for this!

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
The biggest lie in my industry? That women are “below” men… I find it hilarious! The power that women really hold is GOLDEN! I walk into events, see male photographers flexing with all their heavy gear and egos, and there I am with a camera and lip gloss—still making the same, if not bigger, impact. And yes… looking flawless while doing it. That’s the truth they don’t want to admit

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. When do you feel most at peace?
Honestly, I feel most at peace when I’m sleeping. As an entrepreneur still juggling a 9-to-5 and my many side hustles downtime is rare, so when I actually get the chance to rest, I make the most of it and fully recharge.
