Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Becca Moon of Houston

We recently had the chance to connect with Becca Moon and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Becca , thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Definitely gardening. It brings me so much joy seeing the actual fruits of my labor… literally. It’s my calm space.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Becca Wright. I’m a self-taught makeup artist with 12 years of experience in beauty, film, TV, and editorial. I’ve had the honor of working with award shows, music videos, publications, and artists across the industry. Alongside my artistry, I’m also a Black woman in STEM pursuing my master’s in chemistry, which lets me blend creativity with science in a really unique way.

What makes my work special is the way I approach beauty with intention, artistry, and a deep love for helping people feel seen and confident. I’ve taught, I’ve created, I’ve served my community, and I’m continually evolving as an artist and a woman of faith. I’m always learning, always growing, and always aiming to bring excellence, warmth, and authenticity into every space I’m in.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
My earliest memory of feeling powerful was the first time I realized God could use my gifts. I remember creating something and feeling this overwhelming sense of, “Wow… He put this in me.” That confidence didn’t come from people, it came from purpose that he put in me.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Ohhhh absolutely! There have been many times I wanted to give up but I knew I couldn’t. People look up to me, and honestly, I look up to the woman I’m becoming. I want the family I’ll have one day to be proud of me. I want to take care of them. I want to take care of myself. And most importantly, I know God didn’t put all this fire in me just for the world to dim it. That keeps me going every single time!

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
I think it depends on where I am and who I’m around. When I feel safe, I show up as my full, real self. Safety brings out my freedom.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
People might not get why I left teaching to work at Sephora, but retail taught me everything about consumers, what they want, what they buy, what they respond to. I leveled up fast and became a manager within a year. That chapter shaped my voice in beauty.
