Story & Lesson Highlights with Abrianna Holman

We recently had the chance to connect with Abrianna Holman and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Abrianna, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
Most people recognize the impact that my business has had, but what they may not know is that it is a result of the foundations I have cultivated over many years. From a young age, I carried a lot of responsibility, which led to mature, driven decisions at a young age; the choices that led me where I am today. I am most proud of my dedication to my foundations. My healing, my self-respect, and my integrity. This is worth far more than any dollar amount could ever reach. When you truly know yourself and take full accountability for every action and choice you make, you begin to alter your habits and choices through reflection. I am the person I am today because I took the road less traveled and chose to dig deep, reevaluating every aspect of my life and mind. These decisions were taken one day, one action, one habit change at a time; this is my proudest work. These foundations are necessary for a healthy life, both for oneself and one’s family. When you make decisions from a place of confidence and peace, you don’t seek outside validation. I believe that business success is often a reflection of our daily lives, the habits we create, and the relationships we foster.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’ve been in my field, specializing in Men’s Luxury Grooming, since 2018. Hair By Abrianna is special because I’m not just doing hair, I am your style consultant and confidant through life’s flux. I sell confidence and expertise, not just haircuts. I provide an elevated service suited to your lifestyle and needs. I specialize in textured scissor cuts, 2a- 3c curl types, fades, beard trims, neck and shoulder massage, scalp rejuvination treatments and haircolor for men. Many have had experiences that have led to a negative view on these types of services or may have not had this option, but the ones who have it as part of routine can attest that it can change how they move through threir life. I have built my brand through constant growth in knowledge, skill, and my community. The people I serve are equally incredible and partly to thank for my influence today. I am always working on new projects, scouting new leading product lines, and overall just perfecting my craft. You will never find me staying stagnant for too long.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
A fearless explorer, unafraid of risk and up for just about any adventure. The little girl in me has always been a little wild at heart. I think I find my way back to her from time to time, and that’s something I still try to cultivate to get back to more often. Pure joy, no fixed motive. That’s who I believe her to be.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Absolutely! I didn’t always specialize in hair.. but the journey to where I am now was long and hard. You try, you fail, you try again. There comes a time when you feel it in your gut that it is time to elevate, or time to move on from a job, a boss or even a hobby…just before I hit these moments of “time to move on,” every time, I wanted to give up. This is how I knew I was ready for more. A new perspective is often what is needed for me in these times, I find this in nature. The quiet, the vast, the chaotic, the beautiful. It teaches me patience and that you often just have to keep exploring to find what you are looking for.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
The hustle culture in barbering and cosmetology can be a bit much sometimes. I have been on both sides, and I believe boundaries are necessary here. The biggest lie, in my opinion, is that you need to hustle your life away to achieve. In the beginnnings of your career you get tested based off of production but sometimes the best skills you can learn are not ones that SHOW, but ones that compound. Sometimes working smarter is better than harder. Yes, work hard, of course BUT, understand what your needs are first can be very helpful. Discover what kind of environment helps you thrive and what your future goals are. Not everyone wants the same things, and their goals are probably different. Systems, habits and routines can help streamline some of the overwhelm. I think that being clear on who you are and what you want in your profession is better for your longevity and vitality. Your hustle becomes part of your brand and what people buy into, be cautious of what you sell to them.. I am not someone who wants to do more than 10 cuts a day; I enjoy and value people more than the quantity of people sitting in my chair. I have found that the quality of people I can attract is much better too! I have a family, I like to sleep in, adventure on days off, be there for bedtime, have dinner with family after work and even have coffee dates before work! If you can find a way to experience the joy of your ife while you build it, there is a higher likelyhood that you will have a longer career!

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. How do you know when you’re out of your depth?
When I’m both excited and terrified about an idea or decision, I’ve learned to love this feeling in my twenties… It usually means growth awaits! I have never been let down by the chances I have taken so far. Sometimes things don’t pan out how you invision them, but if you seek knowledge and ask for help you will usually find something that leads to your solution.
