Today we’d like to introduce you to Jess Burney.
Hi Jess, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My story is a series of purposeful pivots shaped by curiosity, service, and a deep belief that people do their best work when they feel well, seen, and challenged.
I began my career in education as a classroom teacher, grounded in math instruction and student-centered learning. Over time, I moved into instructional coaching, department leadership, and district- and national-level roles, supporting teachers, school leaders, and entire systems to improve practice and outcomes. I led professional learning across multiple districts and states, managed teams of instructional coaches, partnered with national organizations, and helped design leadership frameworks and curricula centered on equity, wellness, and measurable growth. Working closely with adults allowed me to expand my impact beyond individual classrooms to entire systems.
As my responsibilities grew, so did the pressure. I experienced burnout firsthand and realized that professional success without sustainable well-being was not success at all. Navigating multiple career pivots forced me to develop intentional strategies to protect my mental and emotional health while still leading, performing, and evolving. That personal work became a turning point. It reshaped how I understood leadership, productivity, and purpose.
That experience is what led me to found Tailored Holistic Coaching. I wanted to support professionals, especially educators and mission-driven leaders, who were navigating transitions, leadership growth, or reinvention while carrying invisible stress and expectations. Today, I work as an executive coach, leadership consultant, and learning designer, helping individuals and organizations align their values, skills, and well-being with work that truly fits. Every chapter of my journey builds on the last, with a consistent throughline: growth that is intentional and sustainable.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Absolutely not…lol! The road has been anything but smooth. Along the way, I have navigated health challenges, single parenthood, complex family dynamics, periods of unemployment, and work environments that were unstable or just down right toxic. Each of those experiences tested my resilience and forced me to get very clear about my boundaries, values, and non-negotiables.
Those seasons were exhausting and, at times, deeply discouraging. They also sharpened my self-awareness and reinforced why the holistic lens matters so much. I learned, sometimes the hard way, that career growth cannot be separated from mental, emotional, and physical well-being. Ignoring one eventually costs you the others.
Through it all, coaching consistently felt like home. It is the space where my lived experience, professional expertise, and genuine joy intersect. Supporting others as they navigate their own transitions, reclaim their confidence, and build sustainable paths forward has been a source of grounding and purpose, even in the hardest chapters of my own journey.
We’ve been impressed with Tailored Holistic Coaching , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Tailored Holistic Coaching was built to meet people at the intersection of ambition, transition, and well-being. My mission is to support professionals in aligning their personal and professional goals, so they can build careers and leadership paths that are both fulfilling and sustainable. At its core, the business exists to serve individuals who are successful on paper but searching for clarity, alignment, and longevity in real life. I work primarily with educators, leaders, and mission-driven professionals navigating career pivots, leadership growth, or moments of reinvention, whether those shifts are chosen or unexpected.
My work sits at the crossroads of executive coaching, career strategy, and leadership development. I specialize in helping clients translate their lived experience and transferable skills into clear direction, confident decision-making, and actionable next steps. That may look like executive and career coaching, leadership development and facilitation, LinkedIn and professional brand strategy, or organizational consulting focused on adult learning, culture, and retention. What I am known for is blending strategic rigor with deep empathy. Clients often share that they feel both challenged and deeply supported, which is intentional.
What sets Tailored Holistic Coaching apart is the holistic lens. This is not hustle culture or surface-level optimization. It is work that acknowledges the mental, emotional, and systemic realities professionals face and designs strategies that honor the whole person. My own experience navigating burnout and multiple career pivots informs how I coach. I do not offer abstract advice. I offer grounded frameworks, practical tools, and honest reflection that help clients move forward without abandoning themselves in the process.
Brand-wise, I am most proud of the trust my clients place in me and the outcomes they achieve. From leaders stepping into roles that align with their values, to educators successfully transitioning out of the classroom, to organizations strengthening leadership capacity and retention, the throughline is meaningful and measurable change. I want readers to know that Tailored Holistic Coaching is not about quick fixes. It is about thoughtful, personalized support that helps people align who they are with how they lead and work, with clarity, intention, and humanity.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I love most about Atlanta is its diversity and sense of community. The city feels like a hug. There is a deep feeling of family here, rooted in culture, creativity, and shared history. Atlanta holds space for ambition and authenticity at the same time, and that balance matters to me.
What I like least is the traffic and the never-ending construction, which feels almost legendary at this point. More seriously, I am concerned about how rapid growth has brought in people and organizations that profit from the city without honoring or protecting its rich culture and communities. Atlanta’s soul is one of its greatest strengths, and it deserves care, respect, and stewardship as the city continues to evolve.
