Hi King, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Born in Plainfield, NJ, and raised in Decatur, Georgia, I began my professional music journey after living in Clair-mel City, Florida. My friends and I used to rap in Decatur, but it wasn’t until I moved to Florida that I started taking it seriously. I was inspired by CMC Allstars, whose dedication influenced me; though modest, it marked a significant step beyond my previous views on rapping. Returning to Decatur, I formed groups such as Dramatized Commission with Jabez, Spit Fire, Chris, and Jas. After the group disbanded, Spit Fire recruited C.A.L.A.V., leading to the formation of Verbal Violence. A friend introduced me to Classico from Mystyc Family, and eventually, Verbal Violence joined Mystyc. The group released the underground album Mystyc World. Later, Spit Fire, J-Threat, and I were involved in carjacking incidents, resulting in ten years of incarceration. During that period, Mystyc released Booty Bounce, and we maintained communication. After my release, I focused on music again, releasing singles, a mixtape with Mystyc, joining Atlanta Hit Makers, and publishing The Red Bricks of Krusck. Recently, I joined a collective called Yoshicrew and have several things coming up in the new year.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The biggest struggle in this industry, at least from my personal independent perspective, is keeping up financially. Building a brand costs money, plain and simple. Without a corporate machine or a financial backer, you have to address this aspect. Independently, it’s simply a challenge to keep a balance.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a hip-hop recording artist, CEO, actor, and phlebotomist. But my business partner, Boss Frank, says I am most of all an author or writer. I created an entire universe of my own characters, called The Red Brick Saga, and am currently releasing entries in a novel series set in this world. I am also writing a script for a film set in this world that tells the origin of one of my villains. What sets this apart is that I am telling these stories about superpowered people from the street, drawing on my own experiences for inspiration.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
A.I. has changed significantly, and as we progress, authenticity will be in demand and face direct competition.
