Today we’d like to introduce you to Carletta Youngs.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
James and I had both experienced the pain and impact of divorce. Although we had been close friends before any romantic involvement, our fir year of marriage was uncomfortably challenged. So we sought God’s design for marriage and pursued every resource, tool, and piece of wisdom we could find to strengthen our marriage and family. We wanted our relationship to be healthy and happy. We took divorce off the table and committed to the hard work of rebuilding areas of difficulty and pain. We worked to redefine marriage and repair the negative impressions our past experiences had left on us and on our children. As we grew, learned, and experienced love and marriage God’s way, we decided to be transparent about our experiences and the high martial satisfaction we found. It started by putting pen to paper. “Our Blended Family, God Revealed Lesson for Marital Success” was our venture. We also became marriage champions, taking courses to become certified in various relationship programs aimed to help couples thrive. Based on everything we learned and experienced, we created what we call “Foundational Biblical Principles and Fundamentally Best Practices (FBPs)” that we share openly. Our story continues. Our children are now grown, many with families of their own. We are living proof that marriage can be strong, happy, and healthy.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. Our biggest challenge was becoming a blended family because James found it very difficult to be limited to parental visitations instead of the full-time parent he wanted to be. As a result, James wouldn’t allow himself to fully participate in our home routines and activities without a lot of sadness and guilt that would often lead to arguments and a breakdown in our communication. This lead to challenges in other areas of our marriage including emotional safety and connection. Roles and managing partner expectations were also minefield we had to carefully navigate.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We have dedicated ourselves to helping couples build thriving marriages and families.
James and I launched Covenant Strong as a faith-based initiative created to strengthening marriages and families. We share FBPs to provide balanced information, coaching, resources, and tactics proven to build long-lasting relationships.
We work directly with couples or in collaboration with faith houses.
We are most proud that we are often hailed as a blended family blueprint. We’ve been spotlighted in various relationship resources, conferences, and forums that expanded the reach of work.
What sets us apart is that we combine faith, scripture, and practical strategies in a way that’s both inspiring and actionable. Plus, our work is powered by our own personal experiences.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Sitting with my paternal grandmother as a young girl hearing about her marriage and my mother’s upbringing with my deceased grandfather. Grandmother provided me my standard for marriage. I would judge men more by what grandmother shared than by anyone in my youth or young adult life.
