Hi Charlene, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
This opportunity is a pleasure. Thank you for allowing me to share my success story with the world. I’m what most people refer to as a military brat, my father served this amazing country. My mom and I traveled a lot throughout my childhood. I’m thankful for the trips, and exposure to different cultures growing up. The majority of my family lives in the south so my heart is deeply rooted. I love to cook, you should see Chef Char in action. I create the best authentic cuisines from different cultures and being the experience right my heart to your kitchen. Everything that I touch is made with love. My outlook on life consistently shapes who I am. I’ve always had a passion for fashion and entrepreneurship. My unique since of style, beauty, and charisma has open doors that I never anticipated entering. At age twelve everything changed after attending a casting call in New Orleans Louisiana. Little did I know, this path would lead to endless future opportunities in modeling, photography, and acting. The first agency that signed me under contract to work with them was Wilhelmina models. As I enhanced my etiquette as a model, Barbizon discovered me. Barbizon school of modeling shaped me as a teen model! I learned runway, how to read scripts, commercial modeling, and gained industry exposure. One of the most important lessons that I’ve learned over the years is that personality and networking is key. How you show up, how you look, and how you make people feel is what everyone will remember. Miss Teen Louisiana is one of the first pageants that I was accepted in to compete as a state finalist. Experience is gained by doing, and by doing growth happens, but not overnight. It would be years later that I received the Miss Louisiana title. Fast forward and I’ve had the honor of being crowned as Miss Muse, Miss Fashion Global Louisiana, and Miss Universal Royalty Louisiana. The journey to the crown has been amazing. Over the years community service and giving back lead to creating The New Start Foundation. A non-profit organized to inspire those on a new path whatever that journey may be. We partner with other charities around the world to spread their mission as well as ours. Every day is a new opportunity for a new start.

As licensed pharmacy paraprofessional/herbalist/model with a focus in holistic health. I provide services in the areas of, experiential marketing, event, and skin care services. I understand the importance of feeling beautiful at all times, so we decided to create a variety of luxury products for everyone of all ethnicities to feel beautiful. Kolor Babe Cosmetics include (lipsticks, eyeshadow palettes, mascara, matte lip-gloss, and lip liners). Handmade hair and skin products that include hair oils, skin oils, facial scrubs, body butters natural soaps and body scrubs.

With over 20 years’ experience of working in the beauty industry as a professional model. I have worked on platforms such as B.E.T, My Black is Beautiful, MTV, FOX, Stage plays, Music Videos, Published in countless Magazines and more. I was hired as an actress in 2012, and since then has worked with some the top film directors and producers in the industry. Known for my appearance in major film productions like “Salem”, and movies “I Saw the Light”, “Never Alone for Christmas”, and so many more!

Charlene has worked with a host of celebrities from Macy Gray, Shane West, Chris Brown, Usher, Kelly Rowland the list is endless. She even was crowned Miss Teen Louisiana, Miss Louisiana, Ms. Muse, Miss Fashion Global 2019, and Miss Universal Royalty. Charlene’s experience in servicing a host of star clients fueled her passion and love to give each person that chooses Kolor Babe Cosmetics, the same luxury services that any celebrity would receive.

Charlene is a proud recipient of the “Who’s Who” award and is recognized by the “American Marriage Association” for her service in single and couple coaching. She uses her credentials as an ordained minister to positively influence her community.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Nothing worth having will ever come easy. Even now, each day has its own set of obstacles to overcome.
Life for me took a turn after my mom transitioned in 2019. I desperately needed to find purpose in thriving again. I’ve learned how to find beauty in the journey. Nothing in life comes easy, and if it does it won’t last long. Legacies take time to build, so the road has not been smooth. There will be moments to cherish, there will also be moments of frustration that feel like defeat. Staying motivated and consistent sometimes is the biggest struggle when you’re chasing your dreams. It is never too early or too late to accomplish your goals. After I graduated from high school my son was born the next year. Shortly following his birth, was a divorce. Life for me changed drastically, from being a wife, my physical appearance, to the lifestyle of entertainment that I was used to. I knew education was important if I wanted to continue providing a stable life for my son. I didn’t let being a young mother stop me from graduating college. I never considered going back to the entertainment industry after college, but when you have a winning personality the possibilities are endless! My daughter arrived three years after my son. I worked as a nursing assistant for a few years then my big break happened. Right after I graduated from the pharmacy program the fall of 2012 my career shifted. I landed a role as a dancer on season one of Salem that upcoming year. I was cast to come back and filmed all three seasons of the show. One role leads to other opportunities to film new projects. Since then I’ve been featured in over twenty films, appeared in countless reality shows, and published internationally. Life can change in a matter of seconds, always be prepared for the unexpected.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m often asked the question “what is it that you do”. My answer is simple, I create. As an artist and creative, I create timeless moments. I create unlimited opportunities for my family, community, and those who are moved by my energy. Each day that I wake up I look forward to creating something meaningful that day. Writing something inspirational, painting, drawing, capturing moments on time by taking pictures, making a catchy phase, or introducing a product. I’ve always been an entrepreneur, a visionary, a producer of reciprocal energetic connections. My space of creativity is endless, and I love that for me. My ability to see the good in any situation is what sets me apart from most people. Sure, not every situation can easily be seen in a positive light, but for the sake of sanity and good measure it’s imperative that we try. I am most proud of my consistency to show up. There are days that my perseverance win, and in that growth prevails. To me growth is more important than comfort. Why? Because growth is uncomfortable, it’s showing up when you want to hide, growth requires discipline and consistency.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Finding someone to look up to can be tricky sometimes. We’re all flawed, some more than others. The face that most people present to the world is not authentically who they are behind closed doors. A great mentor will tell the ugly truth even if it’s difficult for you to hear it. We don’t need to be perfect, we only need someone to be honest and to be honest with ourselves. I believe that there are people who have a blueprint that they follow to me successful. Choose people who have mastered the areas you want to excel in and follow their lead. Put yourself amongst the greats and you too will become one of the greatest!
