Exploring Life & Business with Martina Curtis of Slaughterhouse Boxing Club & Fitness Gym

Today we’d like to introduce you to Martina Curtis.

Martina Curtis

Hi Martina, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Slaughterhouse Boxing Club & Fitness Gym wasn’t born out of convenience—it was born out of necessity, resilience, and a commitment to stability.

It all started with my son.

At a young age, he developed a deep interest in boxing. What began as curiosity quickly turned into passion, discipline, and purpose. Boxing gave him structure, focus, and an outlet; things every young person needs, especially while navigating life’s uncertainties. As his dedication grew, so did his goals. He began training seriously, setting his sights on competing in the Junior Olympics.

At the time, he was training out of a boxing gym in Conyers. Like many fighters, he trusted that gym as a place to sharpen skills, build confidence, and prepare for competition. But stability in boxing environments isn’t always guaranteed.

Then the unexpected happened.

A nearby bio-lab explosion caused major disruptions that affected the gym and the surrounding area. Training schedules were thrown off, access became limited, and eventually, my son no longer had a reliable place to train. For a young athlete preparing for something as demanding as the Junior Olympics, inconsistency wasn’t just inconvenient, it was damaging.

We tried to adjust. We waited. We hoped things would return to normal.

They didn’t.

That’s when we made a decision that would change everything.

Instead of continuing to depend on unstable situations, we decided to take control. If my son needed consistency, structure, and a safe place to grow not just as a boxer, but as a young man, then we would build it ourselves. What started as a solution for one athlete quickly became a vision for many.

Slaughterhouse Boxing Club & Fitness Gym was created to be everything we couldn’t find at the time: consistent, disciplined, and committed. A place where fighters don’t have to worry about sudden closures, broken promises, or lack of structure. A place built on accountability, hard work, and heart.

The name “Slaughterhouse” doesn’t just represent our name; it represents more than intensity, it represents grit, survival, and the willingness to fight through adversity. This gym stands for every athlete who just needs a fair chance, a stable environment, and people who truly care about their growth.

What began as a father’s determination to support his son has grown into a community dedicated to building champions inside and outside the ring.

Slaughterhouse Boxing Club & Fitness Gym exists because we refused to let inconsistency define our future. We chose to build something stronger.

And this is only the beginning.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No it hasn’t been a smooth road. We didn’t have investors or a safety net, just belief, commitment, and a vison for stability. There are 3 partners and we all came together and invested our own time and personal savings into building Slaughterhouse Boxing Club & Fitness Gym.

The road hasn’t been smooth. We’ve faced ongoing challenges with marketing the gym, making sure we have enough qualified coaches, and consistently meeting financial obligations. Every step has required sacrifice, problem-solving, and persistence. Building something from the ground up has tested us, but it’s also strengthened our purpose.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Slaughterhouse Boxing Club & Fitness Gym?
Slaughterhouse Boxing Club & Fitness Gym is more than a place to train, it’s a community built on consistency, discipline, and resilience. The gym was founded to solve a real problem: the lack of stable, reliable training environments for young athletes. What began as a solution for one boxer has grown into a space designed to support fighters, youth, and everyday people who want structure, accountability, and growth.

We specialize in fundamental-driven boxing training, youth development, and conditioning that builds both physical strength and mental toughness. Our programs focus on proper technique, discipline, and character, whether someone is preparing for competition or stepping into a gym for the first time. We are especially known for working with youth and young athletes who need stability, positive mentorship, and a safe environment to grow.

What sets Slaughterhouse apart is our purpose. The gym was built by three partners who invested their own savings and hands-on work, not outside investors. Because of that, everything we do is personal. We understand struggle, inconsistency, and perseverance, and we bring that mindset into how we coach and lead. Our trainers don’t just teach boxing; they build confidence, accountability, and respect.

Brand-wise, we are most proud of our name and what it represents. Slaughterhouse is named after our founder’s son, Slaughter, and symbolizes grit, survival, and fighting through adversity. It reflects the heart of our gym and the people inside it; individuals who show up, work hard, and refuse to quit.

We want readers to know that Slaughterhouse Boxing Club & Fitness Gym is committed to long-term impact. We offer structured boxing training, fitness and conditioning, youth programs, adult programs, and a community-driven environment where everyone is pushed to be better inside and outside the ring. This isn’t just a gym, it’s a place where discipline is built, confidence is earned, and champions are developed at every level.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Over the next 5–10 years, we see the boxing and fitness industry moving toward specialized, purpose-driven gyms that emphasize community, mentorship, and real skill development. People are looking for more than general fitness, they want structure, accountability, and environments that help them grow both physically and mentally.

Youth development and training programs will continue to expand as parents and communities recognize the impact structured sports can have on discipline, confidence, and life skills. We know that boxing gyms that focus on character-building, consistency, and positive coaching will stand out.

We also expect to have some hybrid training options available for those who want to get fit virtually, however, authentic human connection will remain the foundation of successful gyms.

Slaughterhouse Boxing Club & Fitness Gym is positioned to grow with these trends while staying rooted in what matters most: community, discipline, and developing champions inside and outside the ring.
