Community Highlights: Meet Tara Argo of The loganville makers studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tara Argo.

Hi Tara, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Right out of high school, I went into the car business simply as a way to take care of myself while I figured out where I was headed. I had grown up in absolute poverty, and suddenly I was surrounded by people who had built successful lives and businesses. It was the first time I could see what was possible. I realized quickly that I was willing to work harder than most, and that business and numbers made sense to me. Over the years, I was incredibly fortunate to work for leaders who invested in me and taught me accounting, operations, marketing, and customer service. More importantly, they showed me what leadership looked like and how much impact a strong team and community can have on a person’s life. I spent my twenties saying yes to everything that would help me grow.

The same year I became a controller, I also adopted my son, Robert. Becoming his mother gave my life clarity and direction in a way nothing else had. Before him, I was constantly chasing side hustles and ideas, trying to find the thing that would change my life. After him, I understood that I was not just building something for myself anymore. I had to build something lasting. Over the next several years, I focused on stability, discipline, and healing. I transformed my health and lost over 250 pounds, created financial security, and built a foundation that would allow me to take meaningful risks instead of desperate ones. That season changed me completely. It taught me patience, resilience, and how to believe in a future I had never seen modeled before.

In 2021, I drove past a small for rent sign on Main Street in Loganville, in a part of town many people had overlooked. Something about it felt like an opportunity I was meant to take. I opened Loganville Makers Studio in that space the very next month. I did not have investors or a perfect plan. I had a vision, years of discipline behind me, and the willingness to work. What started as one small creative space has since grown into multiple Main Street businesses and opportunities that support creativity, entrepreneurship, and community. Along the way, I welcomed my second son in 2023, continued my personal transformation and lost over 100 more pounds, and became part of the Downtown Development Authority to help revitalize the same community that gave me my start.

Everything I have built has come from a belief that your beginning does not determine your ending. I know what it feels like to grow up without resources, without stability, and without examples of what is possible. Today, my purpose is to build spaces, businesses, and opportunities that change what people believe is possible for themselves. I am still building, still learning, and still chasing the vision I first saw for my life when I was eighteen years old.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been completely without obstacles, but in hindsight, the challenges barely register compared to the level of support I have been surrounded by. From the very beginning, I had the full backing of my family, my friends, and an incredible community of people who believed in me and showed up in ways I never could have done alone. Every time a problem came up, there was always someone willing to help me think through it, solve it, or simply remind me to keep going.

What people may not see is that I have built all of this while continuing to work full time in my career at the dealership. That requires an enormous amount of balance, sacrifice, and discipline. The only reason it has been possible is because of the people beside me, especially my mom. She has been my business partner, my biggest supporter, my babysitter, and the person who makes everything work behind the scenes. She carries so much of the weight so I can continue building and growing.

When I look back, it honestly feels easier than I ever imagined, not because it was effortless, but because I was never doing it alone. I have had an entire tribe helping me build this dream. Their belief in me has made it impossible to even consider giving up. It has shown me that while hard work matters, having people who stand beside you and believe in what you are building is what truly makes something sustainable.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My work is centered around building businesses and organizations that create opportunities for creativity, entrepreneurship, and community to thrive together. What began with Loganville Makers Studio has grown into a family of brands and spaces, each with its own purpose but all rooted in the same mission. Loganville Makers Studio was the first, created as a space where people of all ages could explore creativity, take classes, and discover their potential. It has since become a place where children teach classes, aspiring entrepreneurs test their ideas, and people gain confidence through creating something with their own hands.

From there, I expanded into other Main Street businesses, including Will and Co Boutique, which offers thoughtfully curated products, and G.A. Market and Cafe, which was designed to be both a retail space and a gathering place that brings life and connection back to our downtown. I also founded Tarable Souls Society, a product-based brand that reflects my belief in intentional living and creating meaningful, purpose-driven goods. Most recently, I launched the Georgia Creative Futures Foundation, a nonprofit focused on youth entrepreneurship and creative education, which formalizes the work I have already been doing to help young people see themselves as builders of their own future.

What sets these businesses apart is that they were built in direct response to the needs of the community. Nothing was created in isolation. Each space and brand grew organically from listening to what people needed and creating opportunities that did not exist before. Our focus is not just on selling products or hosting events, but on creating environments where people feel welcome, capable, and inspired. We have young people launching their first businesses, families creating together, and individuals discovering confidence they did not know they had.

What I am most proud of is that these businesses have become more than places. They have become platforms for others. They represent what is possible when someone is given the opportunity to create, to lead, and to believe in themselves. I want readers to know that our brand is built on the belief that creativity and entrepreneurship can change the trajectory of a person’s life. These spaces exist to make those opportunities accessible, and we are continuing to grow with that purpose at the center of everything we do.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Several books have had a lasting impact on both my leadership style and my mindset. Early in my career, the general manager at my dealership recommended The One Minute Manager, and it completely changed how I approached leadership. It taught me how to work with different personalities, how to communicate clearly, and how to support people in a way that helps them succeed. That foundation has stayed with me throughout every business I have built.

Outliers was another major mindset shift for me. It helped me understand the importance of timing, opportunity, and preparation, and reinforced my belief that when you stay consistent and open, you will find yourself in the right place at the right time. Blue Like Jazz had a more personal impact. It helped me release the shame I carried from growing up without resources and allowed me to see that my past did not limit my future. It gave me the freedom to take risks, make mistakes, and grow without feeling defined by where I started.

The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fck* also helped me develop mental resilience. It reinforced the idea that your energy is limited and should be protected and focused on what truly matters. More than anything, I believe the mind is incredibly powerful. Faith, mindset, and belief shape what is possible for your life.

I also enjoy podcasts and content focused on manifestation, positive thinking, and personal transformation. I am drawn to stories where people build something meaningful from nothing. Consuming positive, empowering content helps me stay focused, creative, and open to possibility. I believe what you allow into your mind directly shapes what you are able to create in your life.
