Life & Work with Bentley Rebel of Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bentley Rebel.

Hi Bentley, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey with pole began on March 30, 2014. I had watched a pole competition simply out of curiosity, but what I witnessed completely shifted my perspective. The level of athleticism, artistry, and strength on that stage was unlike anything I had seen before. I remember thinking, “There’s no way I could ever do that.” And that exact thought is what challenged me to try.

I took my first class shortly after. I didn’t expect to fall in love with it the way I did, but something about the discipline, creativity, and physical demand immediately resonated with me. When I left that class, I was determined to find a studio closer to home so I could continue training. However, I was told I couldn’t attend because I was male. That moment could have easily discouraged me, but instead it fueled me. It became bigger than just taking a class — it became about proving that I belonged in the space too.

Almost a year later, I found a studio through Groupon that welcomed me with open arms. I immersed myself in classes, and very quickly I realized I wanted more than just weekly instruction. Much of my overall dance journey has been self-taught, so I began using open studio sessions to train independently, breaking down moves, studying technique, and pushing my limits. I treated it like a full-time commitment — researching, practicing, failing, and refining until I elevated my skills.
At the same time, I expanded my versatility by training in hip-hop, dancehall, and twerking. I wanted to become a well-rounded performer, not just technically strong on the pole but dynamic in movement, musicality, and stage presence. That cross-training shaped my performance style and helped me stand out.

A major turning point came when I won a worldwide competition for Nicki Minaj. That recognition validated the countless hours I had invested and sparked a new level of confidence in pursuing pole professionally. From there, I competed in multiple competitions, earning first-place titles and building a reputation as an emerging performer in the pole and dance community.

My passion and persistence opened doors I never imagined. I appeared on national television, including “The Jerry Springer Show,” and later on the hit series “P-Valley.” I’ve toured internationally as both a performer and instructor, sharing my craft with students around the world. One of the most defining moments of my career was performing at the iconic Sydney Opera House — a full-circle experience that reminded me how far I had come from being told I didn’t belong.
Throughout my career, I’ve also had the opportunity to collaborate with major artists including Summer Walker, SZA, Victoria Monét, Jilly Anais, Cardi B and more. Each collaboration required not only talent but professionalism, adaptability, and the ability to deliver at a high level under pressure.

What makes my journey especially meaningful is that I built it without an agent, formal representation, or a blueprint to follow. I am a self-taught entrepreneur who learned through experience — navigating opportunities, building relationships, marketing myself, and creating my own lane in an industry that didn’t always feel accessible. My story is rooted in resilience, faith, and relentless work ethic. I’ve always believed that if I continued to show up, improve, and trust the process, greater opportunities would follow.

Pole didn’t just become a skill — it became a platform for advocacy, artistry, and entrepreneurship. It taught me discipline, confidence, and the power of creating space where there wasn’t one before. And that mindset continues to guide every step of my career.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No in the beginning of learning pole I shattered my patella which had me out of commission for 3 months which felt like years! Ive gotten many no’s and also proved a bunch of people wrong that this was a waste of time.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
After leaving my 9-5 I still go back to New York and work with special needs adults in day habilitation programs while still pursuing my strong passion for dance. I am known for being a NYC dancehall king and also pole dancing and creating a fun energetic atmosphere. I am proud of me in all that I’ve done and faced in life. What sets me apart from others is I’m authentic throughout my person and work life. The same Bentley you see if the same Bentley people who grew up with me know.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I do everything myself.
