Rising Stars: Meet Assata Skinner of Mableton, GA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Assata Skinner.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Hypershipping grew out of my passion for customer service and connecting with people. I’ve always enjoyed building relationships and helping others navigate shipping and business needs in a way that feels personal and supportive.

During a period of exploration, I came across similar ideas, which sparked the vision to build something of my own. I started developing Hypershipping step by step, focusing on trust, service, and community—values that continue to guide where the business is headed today.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Building a business from the ground up comes with challenges, especially when you’re learning and growing at the same time. Gaining visibility and trust took patience and consistency.

Adding U-Haul services was a big step forward. It helped increase our visibility and allowed customers to connect Hypershipping with a trusted brand, which strengthened community trust and supported our growth.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I spent over 18 years in medical sales in the healthcare industry, and during that time I learned just how much people value being seen, heard, and supported. Being customer-focused, organized, and reliable as a field representative wasn’t just about the job it shaped who I am as a professional.

Those lessons carried over directly into building Hypershipping. I knew that trust, follow-through, and genuine care weren’t optional they were essential. That experience taught me how to show up for people, solve problems, and build relationships, which is exactly what I aim to do with every customer and every shipment today

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love Atlanta for its proximity to so many vibrant and diverse neighboring towns. The city is full of energy, with a rich mix of cultures and demographics. I also enjoy the music scene, great dining, and wonderful schools there’s always something fun to do, and that makes it an exciting place to live, work, and build a business.
If I had to pick something I like least, it would be the traffic and congestion. Atlanta is a growing, bustling city, and sometimes getting around can be challenging. But honestly, that’s a small trade off for all the culture, opportunity, and vibrant community the city offers.
