Life & Work with Jasmine Jones of Columbus

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Jones.

Hi Jasmine, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My story starts in 2018, I was in school to become a nurse but I wasn’t as excited as before about my future in the nursing field. All my life I was told being a nurse was the best job security there is so I thought that was the best route for me as a single mother but after watching my brother in the hospital fighting with cancer I quickly realized I wasn’t fit for that job. I didn’t want to be one of those nurses who was only there for the money and job security while sick people needed me to be there and take care of them when others couldn’t. I also wanted to have freedom to move about and be there for my kids and family instead of missing things due to work. After some thought, I started esthetician school with the intention to do lashes and facials and ended up falling in love with waxing, particularly brow waxing and shaping. I graduated during the height of COVID and that set me back so I wasn’t able to get my license until 10 months later to officially start working. I received my license and went to work for a local wax salon one month later for a little over a year and a half, learning and growing before venturing out on my own.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a smooth road at all. I don’t have many entrepreneurs in my family, especially in my field, so I have had to learn everything on a day to day basis. I’ve struggled the most with being my own social media person and making sure to get content, edit and post. That’s another job in itself and can be a lot for one person especially a mom! I’ve also struggled with my own personal fears standing in my way of expanding faster. Being a business owner is an uphill battle that takes a lot of time and patience, you’re never really “off work”.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I offer full body waxing for women and men. I specialize in brazilians using hard wax and sugaring as well as brow waxing and tinting and they are the two things that I’m most known for. I have a love for brows so I’m constantly getting new clientele for brow services. I’m most proud of my ability to cater to my clients needs especially with brows, because brows frame your face so it’s important that my clients love them! I think that sets me apart from most brow artists and the fact that I can see the shape of the brow without brow mapping. I’ve got the eye!

Who else deserves credit in your story?
Oh my goodness I actually haven’t had the pleasure of having a mentor but my support system is so big and great! I’m still searching for one! My family has actually been the most supportive and have sent me the most clientele. Anytime I have felt down about any decisions I’ve had to make they have supported me and lifted me up to remind me that I’m making the best decisions for my future and my children as well. My clients who have followed me have been so helpful in keeping my confidence up and bringing in clients!
