Today we’d like to introduce you to Dan Kabanko.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m Dan Kabanko, the founder and owner of Atlanta City Appliance Repair, Inc., a locally owned and operated appliance repair company based in Alpharetta, Georgia. My journey began with a simple passion for fixing things and a commitment to delivering honest, high-quality service. What started as a small, hands-on repair service has grown into a trusted business serving the greater North Atlanta area.
From day one, I focused on building strong relationships with customers by showing up on time, communicating clearly, and solving problems efficiently. Over the years, that dedication to dependable service helped the company grow organically through word-of-mouth referrals and repeat clients. We expanded our expertise to include a wide range of appliances — from residential washers and dryers to commercial refrigeration equipment — and built a reputation for professionalism and reliability.
Today, Atlanta City Appliance Repair is known not just for technical skill, but for treating every customer with respect and transparency. Even as we’ve grown, my goal remains the same: to provide exceptional appliance repair solutions that make life easier for our customers.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Like most small business owners, I’ve faced my share of challenges along the way.
In the beginning, one of the biggest struggles was building trust and visibility in a competitive market. Appliance repair is a field where customers are often stressed because something important in their home has stopped working. Earning their confidence took time, consistency, and a lot of hard work.
There were also operational challenges — managing cash flow, dealing with delayed parts shipments, handling warranty issues, and learning how to build the right team. Finding reliable technicians who share the same standards for professionalism and quality was another major step in growing the company. As we expanded, I had to shift from just being a technician to also being a leader, marketer, and systems builder.
Supply chain disruptions in recent years added another layer of difficulty. Parts backorders, rising costs, and manufacturer delays forced us to become more resourceful and proactive in how we communicate with customers and manage expectations.
But every challenge helped strengthen the business. Each obstacle taught me how to improve processes, build better relationships, and stay focused on long-term growth instead of short-term setbacks. The road wasn’t always easy, but it made the company more resilient and disciplined — and that’s something I’m proud of.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that reputation is everything. Skills can be developed, systems can be improved, and teams can grow — but trust takes years to build and only moments to lose.
In the appliance repair industry, customers usually call us when something in their home has stopped working. They’re stressed, sometimes frustrated, and they need someone they can rely on. I’ve learned that clear communication, honesty about pricing, and standing behind your work matter just as much as technical ability.
Another major lesson has been the importance of systems and leadership. In the beginning, I focused mainly on being a great technician. Over time, I realized that building a sustainable company requires structure — strong processes, the right team, and consistent standards. You have to think long-term, not just about today’s service call.
Most importantly, I’ve learned that challenges are part of growth. Every setback — whether it was slow seasons, parts delays, or operational mistakes — forced me to improve the business. Growth comes from adapting, staying disciplined, and always protecting your brand’s integrity.
That mindset has shaped not just the company, but me as a business owner.
