Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeff Amezqua And Melissa White.
Hi Jeff Amezqua and Melissa White, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
J and I met in 2010 at a wedding photography workshop, where we quickly discovered a shared passion for storytelling through images. What began as photographing weddings together soon grew into something much bigger than we imagined. Over the last 15 years, our specialty has been serving the educational space, capturing school communities while also investing deeply in the next generation of creatives. That heart and focus eventually gave rise to Society Imagery, the creative company we officially launched in 2022, rooted in artistry, excellence, and impact.
Our journey in education ultimately led us to Landmark Christian School, where we now teach photography and lead a highly esteemed internship program. It is one of only a few programs in the United States that provides students with true hands-on experience, professional development opportunities, and mentorship designed to help launch their own careers in photography. Today, through Society Imagery, we continue blending professional photography with education, equipping students to pursue lives marked by creativity, whether in photography or any path they choose.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Oh, it hasn’t always been smooth sailing because life doesn’t exactly come with a manual! Being partners who are both independent and wildly different in our strengths means we sometimes bump heads and then laugh about it five minutes later. We tackle challenges one at a time, usually with a cup of coffee in hand and a lot of humor. Keeping things fun and lighthearted has always been our magic ingredient. Whether we are on a shoot or mentoring students, laughter keeps the energy high and the creativity flowing. Every twist and turn along the way has only made us more passionate about what we do and more grateful for the people we get to do it with!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Our work in education has taught us to play more and not take everything too seriously. Working with incredible students and staff allows us, through photography, to tell the inspirational story of a school and the people who bring it to life. The most rewarding part is giving the younger generation a chance to discover their own creativity in ways they may have never imagined and sharing those images with their families and friends.
At the heart of it all is our faith. We believe we were created to create, and that creativity is woven into who we are. It is something we constantly remind our students of with our class mantra, “Create and Dominate.” We want them to understand that stepping into their creativity with confidence is part of stepping into their purpose. What sets us apart is not just the images we produce, but the way we help people see themselves through a different lens, with confidence, courage, and the freedom to create boldly.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Starting a business was a huge risk. We often catch ourselves asking, “What makes us different?” There are so many incredibly talented photographers out there, and their work can make you wonder if you’ll ever measure up. There’s always that fear that you’ll never “get there” or reach that level—but the truth is, when your eyes are always on what you’re not, you stop living true to who you are as a creative.
A specific risk in our work is knowing that we could miss the moment, and there are no redos. Each time we try to capture a once-in-a-lifetime experience or deliver a product we’re proud of, there’s a real chance we might fall short, but that is also what makes the wins feel so meaningful when we get it right. We just keep taking one step at a time, trusting the process, and remembering our why. Fear is part of the journey, but it doesn’t get to run the show.
