Inspiring Conversations with Lynn Hale of Chamblee & Vine

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lynn Hale.

Lynn, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve owned several businesses during my career, but starting my wine bar 15 months ago has been the most challenging and the most rewarding. It is completely different from anything I’ve ever done before. My goal was to create community, and provide a safe and welcoming space for all. The fact that we sell amazing wine is an added bonus!

We are proud to offer a curated selection of wines from independent, and small-production vineyards from around the world. Our portfolio focuses on artisanal bottles crafted by winemakers who prioritize quality and character over mass-market volume. We have self-serve dispensers that allow customers to taste wines by the ounce, and we also sell beer and sparkling wine by the glass. We also have amazing non-alcohol options as well as snacks. We also support our friends who own local restaurants by picking up to-go orders for our guests and deliver them directly to the customer’s table. We provide a wide-range of events from live music, to bingo benefitting different charities, to mahjong, and guided tastings with guest speakers, just to name a few. We also have a wine club. Our customers have used our space to host bridal showers, baby showers, birthday parties, engagement parties, book clubs, networking events and other special milestones.

Even though my business is still fairly new, I feel that my goal of creating a comfortable and beautiful space where people want to come and stay for a while has definitely come to fruition. I am grateful to be a part of the Chamblee community and have met so many great people and made many new friends.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There were (and still are) many learning curves with running my first brick and mortar establishment. I’ve definitely learned a lot!
I still have so much to learn about the wine industry and so many connections yet to make.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are a great hybrid of retail bottle shop / wine bar that is different from most.
Our customers tell us that our self-serve wine dispensers are unique and fun, and our friendly and knowledgeable staff are there to ensure that everyone has an amazing experience.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Gambling my retirement at this point in my life is a huge risk. I don’t think I am a huge risk-taker, but I would rather try and fail than regret not trying.
Risking getting into a business that was completely different than anything I have ever done, and pushing myself out of my comfort zone was quite an undertaking as well.
